DESCRIPTION:
The Instructional Designer consults with faculty and staff to design, develop, and deliver online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses to achieve desired learning outcomes. Provides appropriate training for faculty in pedagogy, instructional design, eLearning managed technology tools, and related instructional technologies to advance teaching excellence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Collaborates with faculty and staff to design, develop, and implement online, hybrid and technology enhanced courses.
2. Evaluates existing online and hybrid courses for adherence to best practices in course design and instruction.
3. Uses learning analytics and Quality Matter principles to ensure the quality of online and hybrid courses.
4. Consults with faculty and staff in evaluating, recommending, selecting, and implementing academic, instructional and program specific technology solutions.
5. Coordinates with external partners and vendors to implement and integrate technology into the learning management system.
6. Develops and delivers professional development and training opportunities for faculty and staff.
7. Collaborates with external stakeholders to support eLearning student services and success initiatives.
8. Troubleshoots and resolves technical issues for faculty, students and staff related to the learning management system (LMS) and other integrated tools.
9. Develops Open Educational Resources (OER) assets to be utilized in courses.
10. Assesses courses for adherence to ADA standards and compliance and provides assistance creating accessible materials.
11. Works collaboratively college-wide to create an online presence for a department, group, or committee.
12. Performs administrative tasks on essential software (e.g., Learning Management System (LMS), Zoom, etc.)
13. Research new and emerging technology and software solutions for the department.
14. Develops and maintains proficiencies in emerging technologies, pedagogies and best practices related to eLearning and instructional technology.
15. Participates in institutional committees as well as volunteer and service opportunities.
16. Represents the College at local, state and national conferences and professional organizations.
17. Performs all site and position specific responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree in education-related field from an accredited institution.
2. One year work experience in instructional design (e.g. educational setting, corporate, internship).
3. Two years of experience working with Learning Management Systems.
4. One year experience providing instructional support or teaching (K-12 level or higher education).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s degree in education-related field from an accredited institution.
2. One year (2 semesters/terms) experience teaching online courses at the post-secondary level.
3 Two years of experience developing courses and managing content within Canvas LMS.
4 Two years of experience with basic web development and technology-based learning software tools such as CSS, Adobe Creative Suite, H5P, and Camtasia.
5. One year experience using technology for lecture capture, video and audio recording/production, and streaming classroom lectures.

6. Knowledge of a variety of instructional technology tools and platforms including curriculum management software.
7. Demonstrated proficiency in emerging technologies, pedagogies, and best practices related to eLearning and instructional technology.
8. Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.
9. Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues via phone, email, and in person to provide solutions to faculty and student end users.
10. Knowledge of copyright, fair use, and 508 compliance.
11. Ability to maintain confidentiality and security when working with user data.

WORK ENVIRONMENT and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
1. Works inside in an office environment.
2. May travel to different campus locations, trainings, and community-based events.

The College anticipates that the position incumbent must be available throughout the workday and, on some occasions, after regular work hours.
