Seminole County Board of County Commissioners is Hiring a Principal Planner - Long Range Near Sanford, FL

Professional work with responsibility for the supervision, oversight, and coordination of planning assignments for Planning projects in the Planning and Development Division. Responsible for administration of planning management to include task identification and assignment, setting priorities for the flow of work, process review and oversight of the items to be presented to the various boards that the division is responsible to serve. Supervises staff and serves as mentor/coach and performs monthly feedback sessions and evaluations to direct reports, and participates in hiring and/or termination of staff members as directed or advised. Communicates with the public regarding the Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan and makes regular presentations to the Board of County Commissioners and other Advisory Boards pertaining to assigned planning related projects. Assists the department in achieving its mission and vision statements.

** Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description.

Oversees and supervises the work activities of a team of Planners. 
Organizes, directs, and supervises work activities in the areas of process management. 
Reviews development plans for compliance with the Seminole County Land Development Code including, but not limited to, commercial site plans and residential subdivision plans. 
Interprets the Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan. 
Manages the development and implementation for review processes for site plan, subdivision and other permit application packages to assure compliance with the planning requirements of the County Code. 
Initiates and recommends for approval by the Division Manager and the Department Director the hiring, termination, performance evaluation and disciplinary or commendatory actions for assigned personnel. 
Serves as liaison for various boards and committees. Prepares and presents agenda items for the Board of County Commissioners. 
Attends Development Review Committee meetings and presents reports, comments and recommendations for projects in the review process. Ensures appropriate fees are assessed and collected according to procedures set forth. 
Principal Planner provides technical assistance to other staff, officials and developers on review process matters relating to the analysis and interpretation of the Zoning code and Comprehensive Plan requirements. 
May perform all administrative management duties for the Planning Division in the absence of the manager.Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Public Administration, or a closely related field, and seven (7) years of local government planning, administration, or management of planning, comprehensive planning, and development review experience required, and a minimum of two (2) years of experience supervising Planning personnel. Preference will be given to those with a Master’s Degree. Professional registration or certification is preferred. 
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, zoning, development regulations and permitting. 
Considerable knowledge of the Seminole County current planning practices, County Land Development Code and Florida Comprehensive Planning process. 
Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to city and county land development issues, regulations, grants and programs. 
Knowledge of statistics, graphics, and basic research methods employed in assimilating, compiling, evaluating, and presenting information and recommendations. Knowledge of local government operations with particular reference to county administration. Considerable ability to develop, plan, and participate in research and planning projects. 
Ability to analyze and interpret complex data, present information, ideas, and recommendations clearly and succinctly in written and oral form. 
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with agencies, groups, and individuals associated with development issues. 
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and make presentations before large and small groups. 
Ability to exercise considerable initiative and work independently to accomplish assigned duties. General knowledge of Windows and various office software packages. 
Ability to perform planning analysis, database management, document preparation and general information management including ArcView Mapping Software. 
Ability to interpret technical documents and plans such as the Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License. 
All employees must attend Seminole County Required Trainings. Department Specific trainings per position may be required.
Performs other related work as required. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
