Selvin's Restaurant / Palm Garden Hotel is Hiring a Controller Near Thousand Oaks, CA

Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Controller to join our team at Selvin's Restaurant & the Palm Garden Hotel. The ideal candidate will oversee all financial aspects of the organization and play a key role in strategic decision-making. Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost
  • Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Review and approve invoices, ensuring correct coding between Restaurant and Hotel
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, reviewing and approving employee expense reports.
  • Processing payroll and collaborating with the General Manager (GM) on time card approvals.
  • Coordinate with GM/AGM for tip submissions and determine appropriate distribution methods.
  • Review and address time penalty and meal break violations in collaboration with the GM.
  • Conduct regular communication sessions with property ownership to ensure alignment and address any financial concerns.
  • Provide comprehensive financial oversight and reporting for both hotel and restaurant units.
  • Review hotel night audit reports to ensure accuracy and address any discrepancies.
  • Perform house bank reconciliations to maintain financial accuracy and integrity.
  • Develop and implement an approval system to establish checks and balances within the businesses.
  • Offer financial advice and contribute to business strategy discussions aimed at optimizing performance and profitability.
  • Identify opportunities to save costs, analyze problems, and implement effective solutions to maximize savings.
  • Ensure accurate splits between hotel and restaurant business units to facilitate proper financial management.
  • Generate and analyze weekly sales and labor reports for the restaurant unit, providing insightful summaries to inform decision-making.

Skills:

- Strong understanding of financial concepts
- Proficiency in accounting principles
- Experience with General Ledger reconciliation
- Knowledge of Technical Accounting standards
- Ability to manage multiple accounts
- Financial management skills
- Familiarity with Governmental Accounting practices
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Expertise in General Ledger accounting
- Proficient in Accounts Payable processes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles and accounting practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
