Self Help Services is Hiring a DPI Business Analyst Near Durham, NC

WHAT You'll DO:

  • Develop expertise in the complex and evolving data model that supports the holistic organization.
  • Prepare and analyze complex datasets on lending and other Self-Help activities as required by current funders and research needs of the organization.
  • Present findings with internal and external audiences - which may Self-Help leadership, CDFI peers, and funders – with clear and compelling written reports, verbal communication, and visual presentations.
  • Independently manage projects to meet data needs, with minimal oversight
  • Thought-partner with DPI colleagues and provide analytical support on major proposals and support DPI team in sourcing financial and impact data, and developing performance projections, and evaluation frameworks.
  • Work with DPI colleagues in fundraising, investor relations, compliance, policy, impact assessment, and community engagement to ensure that data systems, analyses, and reports are adequately serving their needs and work with Self-Help’s Data Intelligence Group (DIG) to optimize them.
  • Use Excel, SQL, and data visualization tools such as Power BI to analyze and aggregate data generated by Self-Help’s programmatic activities.
  • Build complex reports, dashboards, and workflows to provide accurate, relevant, multidimensional and, when appropriate, visually attractive data for reporting to various internal and external constituencies.
  • Collaborate with internal Data Intelligence Group (DIG) to design data processes and reporting standards, ensure data accuracy, and resolve reporting requests.
  • Respond to data requests from the DPI team and, at times, throughout the organization, by helping requesters understand their needs and options, framing queries, pulling data, reviewing results and sharing reports in a compelling format and storing reports of generic interest.

WHAT You’ll NEED:

  • Master’s degree and 3 years of work experience or bachelor’s degree and 5 years of work experience OR equivalent related experience.
  • Studies and experience in information/data sciences, economic development, federal regulations, and business preferred. Interest in and understanding of basic concepts around lending, financial services, information security, nonprofit organizations, social justice, and consumer advocacy desirable.
  • Proficiency with Office 365 (especially Excel) and Power BI or other data visualization software;
  • Experience with SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Reporting Services, ArcGIS, and Salesforce preferred.
  • Understanding of general data modeling principles and ability to extract data accurately from data warehouses/source systems.
  • Familiarity with financial modeling and forecasting preferred.
  • Good quantitative skills combined with a creative approach to report building;

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to initiate, juggle and lead multiple projects to meet goals, objectives, and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – demonstrated ability to work effectively in varied professional, socio-economic, and cultural contexts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication combined with active listening skills.
