GENERAL SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall supervision of nursing care in the Health Center. The Assistant Director of Nursing is the Primary Infection Preventionist. The Assistant Director of Nursing assumes the responsibilities of the Director of Nursing during their absence or in the event of a vacancy in that position.

Qualifications:

• Registered Nurse with current Illinois license; BSN preferred. 
• Current CPR certification.
• Infection Preventionist certification, or willingness to obtain within 3 months of hire. 
• Geriatric/rehabilitation experience with a good understanding of restorative nursing.
• Supervisory experience preferred.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Supervises certified nursing assistants, including orientation, counseling, and performance management.
2. Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Director of Nursing in their absence
3. Administers direct nursing care when more than routine care is indicated.
4. Makes routine rounds to assure proper care and a safe, clean resident environment.
5. Assures accuracy and completeness of medical records.
6. Assists Staffing Coordinator with staffing and scheduling, as needed
7. Participates in family/resident counseling, including care plans
8. Responds to emergency calls as necessary.
9. Assures effective communication with other shifts and departments as it relates to resident care.
10. Attends routine and ad hoc meetings regarding residents and/or clinical issues that may arise throughout the organization;
11.  Works with other Nursing Department Team members and the Human Resources Department to interview, hire, and orient new personnel, both in nursing and in other departments as appropriate and requested;
12. Disciplines and adjusts grievances, or effectively recommends such action for Nursing Department personnel as appropriate;
13. Maintains confidentiality of all protected health information whether electronic, written or oral to which he/she may be exposed either during the course of his/her duties or as the result of an incidental disclosure;
14. As a member of Nursing Leadership, participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the strategic plan.
