This position will work in our home office in Topeka, Kansas or our Overland Park, Kansas office. The Director, Investment Accounting oversees the responsibilities for the Investment Accounting Reporting and Analysis team. The Team is responsible for internal reporting related to investment accounting, preparation of investment schedules for GAAP and statutory required reporting and filings, analyzing investment activity for the Company’s insurance and other subsidiaries. Oversee and assist in analyzing investment accounting results at an asset class, portfolio and legal entity level compared to plan and period over period and communicate results with managementOversee preparation of quarterly and annual investment and derivative disclosures for audited GAAP and Statutory financial statementsOversee and assist in preparation of reporting such as IMR, realized/unrealized gains/losses, watch list, risk-based capital support, other invested assets and options analysisPerform analysis and review of new investment accounting reporting requirements and disclosuresAssist in preparation of materials for impairment analysisAssist with preparation of rating agency surveysWork with internal and external sources to assure proper understanding and reporting of financial data; including the Investment Team, Actuarial, and State Street Kansas City, the company’s investment accounting outsource providerIn coordination with State Street Kansas City, ensure accuracy of accounting fields and recordsAssist with coordination of investment accounting for interim and annual audits and address additional follow-up questions/inquiries via internal or external auditors as they ariseParticipate in development of changes to areas of responsibility that would enhance, improve or facilitate job performance, processing or workflowResponsible for maintaining investment accounting records as needed for the coordination, preparation and submission of the various required reportsAssist in developing and maintaining a strong internal control environment within the Investment Accounting function and participate in internal control design and documentation. Who Are You? Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field is typically required.
