Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle TN, Inc is Hiring a Manager, Community Partnerships Near Nashville, TN

We are hiring for a full-time Manager, Community Partnerships to join the External Affairs Department at Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
Who we are: Since 1978, Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, a member of the Feeding America™ food bank network, has been providing food to our neighbors at risk of hunger in Middle and West Tennessee. Our mission is “to provide food to people facing hunger and work to advance hunger solutions.” Last year, we provided more than 36 million meals through our network to 420 Partner Agencies across our 46-county service area. What you’ll do:
Summary: Manager, Community Partnerships will collaborate with Community Engagement, Corporate Engagement and Marketing & Communications teams to raise awareness, engage the community, and fundraise. This position will manage the development, implementation and coordination of food and fund drives as well as events and support Second Harvest’s community activations.
Key Responsibilities:
Virtual Food Drives
  • Manage Second Harvest’s Virtual Food Drive Program
  • Actively seek out Virtual Food Drive opportunities and steward donors for retention.
  • Develop new partnerships and revenue streams.
  • Manage large Virtual Food Drives with Leadership Music, Meet Music City, etc.
Traditional Food Drives
  • Manage Second Harvest’s food drive program.
  • Collaborate with representatives and volunteers from other organizations, Partner Agencies, local media and Second Harvest staff members to execute large-scale food and fund drives, including Nashville Predators Food Drive, Titans Food Drive, Nashville Soccer Club Food Drive, Food 2 Families, and Stamp Out Hunger and more.
  • Solicit, plan, coordinate, and implement community food drives with schools, corporate partners, faith communities, and individuals.
  • Provide monthly analysis of Food and Fund Drive donations. Manages donor records and properly record and acknowledge organizations and individuals participating in food and fund drives.
  • Attends and represents Second Harvest Food Bank at major food/fund drive events.
  • Manages on-site volunteers for Major Food Drives and coordinates with Volunteer team to recruit and provide on-site support to volunteers.
Signature & Third Party Events
  • Manage Third-party & Community Partnership events to maximize funds, exposure and increased affinity for the food bank and its mission. Support all special events including sponsorships, volunteer management, administrative support, data-entry, and in-kind donations solicitation. For example – Generous Helpings, Ode to Otha, Stars for Second Harvest and Dinner with a Purpose.
  • Research local and regional industry trends.
  • Support Director, Community Engagement in managing event committees formed to help secure sponsors and participants.
  • Identify, develop, maintain and strengthen relationships with civic, corporate, faith-based, educational and other community partners to encourage collaboration, execute events, and enhance fundraising efforts.
  • Identify and cultivate beneficial corporate and community partnerships. Develop creative partnerships and innovate ways to bring in resources.
Community Engagement
  • Support Community Engagement outreach events to support Second Harvest’s strategic initiatives, programs and Partner Agencies including, but not limited to, speaking engagements, facility tours, community fairs and public events that result in increased awareness and engagement.
  • Provide support to the Director, Community Engagement to further the productivity and scope of the department. Assist with events and promotions as needed.
  • Provide leadership within the External Affairs staff to ensure high performance and maximize return on investment from peer-to-peer fundraising program.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Partnerships team to develop relationships with corporate donors and outside organizations wishing to participate in Virtual Food Drives, Food Drives and Event Sponsorships
Other duties as assigned.
When & Where:
  • Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.
    • Occasional evenings and/or weekends may be required for meetings or special events.
    • Occasional duties may be necessary, as well as responding to issues, outside of normal working hours (e.g., disaster response, community events, etc.).
  • Travel: Occasional daytime travel required, up to 5% of work week within the local service area, and to and from the Main Distribution Center in Nashville, Tennessee as needed.

  • Essential business/ first responder: In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency, Second Harvest is typically considered an essential business service and emergency responder. All employees may be required to perform regular or emergent duties on-site. Employee safety is balanced with business and community necessity. Some positions are more likely to be required on-site than others.
Is this you?
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Marketing or Communications
  • Experience: 3-5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills & Capabilities:
    • Strong communication skills, must be comfortable engaging in a variety of different communication modes (verbal, non-verbal, and written) and be attuned to others through active listening.
    • Proven track record of successful project implementation.
    • Demonstrated success in aptitude to monitor event planning timeline and progression. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and exchange information efficiently. Must possess the ability to manage one’s own time.
    • Detail oriented, ability to handle multiple deadlines.
    • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Organized with excellent time management skills.
    • Flexible and reliable team player.
    • Excellent customer service skills.
    • Comfortable presenting in many settings to diverse audiences.
    • Proficiency and use of Microsoft Office and CRM software, such as Raiser’s Edge
    • Successful working both independently and cooperatively, exercise independent judgement and creativity.
    • Proven history of successful fundraising, project management, or community event planning.
    • Passionate about community service and working knowledge of non-profits.
  • Competencies: Coaching/Developing Others, Result Orientation and Execution, Quality improvement, Project Management
  • Other requirements: Our pre-hire process requires acceptable results from the following: professional reference feedback, criminal background, and Motor Vehicle Record. Current Driver’s License and automobile insurance are also required. Criminal backgrounds are evaluated on a case-by-case basis considering several factors (timing, frequency, severity and job relation).
