We are hiring for a full-time Farm to Families Coordinator to join the Food Resourcing department at Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
Specific duties will include, but may not be limited to:
What you’ll do:
Summary:
The Farm to Families Coordinator is responsible for managing relationships with our Agriculture Industry partners and coordinating food sourcing directly to Second Harvest Food Bank, as well as to our network of Partner Agencies. This position will work with and support a team of peer positions at the four other Feeding America affiliated Food Banks in Tennessee. This position must support and foster our deep commitment to diversity and inclusion, which is the foundation for creating a culture of belonging for all personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage relationships with Agriculture Industry donors
  • Identify farmers, ranchers, producer, processors, or distributors in our service area with available products for purchase or donation
  • Consult with partnering farmers/growers to coordinate crop planning, specific to item variety and quantity
  • Coordinate freight for pickup and delivery, including third-party delivery, of food products when necessary
  • Keep current on issues related to food donation including tax incentives, food safety regulations, and federal and state laws and report to donors when appropriate
  • Plan and execute innovate and creative outreach events to represent these partnerships in the community
Manage Partner Agencies that are enabled to receive Agriculture Industry products
  • Identify partner agencies with the capacity to directly receive produce/dairy/protein from farmers/producers in their county, targeting partner agencies working in underserved communities
  • Act as a liaison between farmers, ranchers, producer, processors, distributors, and Partner Agencies
  • Help coordinate pickup or delivery of food products when necessary
  • Ensure agencies are accurately recording and tracking pounds received directly from farmers/growers/producers
  • Track invoicing from and payment to farmers, ranchers, producer, processors, and distributors
Maintain donation and purchase database
  • Maintain invoicing and payment information for transactions completed
  • Compile and organize data for ease of access by internal customers: Food Resourcing Team, Transportation, Community Impact, External Affairs, etc.
  • Complete quarterly, annual, and final financial and progress reports using a template provided by the Agricultural Marketing Service grants division
Lead Coordinator for state-wide team
  • Share resources and information when appropriate, and collect reciprocal information from their peers at the other Food Banks
  • Be a liaison between Tennessee Food Banks and the State Department of Agriculture, as well as with other Agricultural Industry organizations
  • Conduct bi-monthly meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and successes
  • Organize focus group meetings with underserved community representatives as identified by Partner Agencies
Provide regular reports to determined internal and external partners, as well as respond to one-off requests from partners for poundage or financial reports
Work with Community Impact to identify eligible Agencies, and ensure accurate and timely reporting
Work with Inventory, Operations, Transportation, Community Impact and Volunteer Engagement to coordinate logistics and delivery of products
Provide occasional technical logistics support for selected procured food including perishable product, and high-priority or urgent pickup needs. Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No, this position does not have supervisor responsibilities.
When & Where: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm. On occasion, duties may be necessary, as well as responding to issues, outside of normal working hours (e.g., disaster response, community events, etc.)
Travel: 30% travel required Routine travel is required within the service area; occasional travel for overnight trainings may be necessary. Use of company vehicle is available for exclusive use during working hours. Current driver’s license required; copy of current auto insurance; and clean MVR required.

Some positions are more likely to be required on-site than others. This position is eligible for consideration for the Remote portion of WorkFlex, but not eligible for telecommuting.
Is this you?
Education: H.S. Diploma/GED required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience: 2 years of related experience and/or training.
Skills & Capabilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate food bank mission to food donors
  • Ability to troubleshoot and collaborate interdepartmentally
  • Experience in managing relationships
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Outlook (email, calendar & task reminders), Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn new software
