Position Description

Seattle University seeks a dynamic and experienced leader for the position of University Registrar to join our community. This position requires a unique combination of strong leadership, technological, and interpersonal skills. The University Registrar actively contributes to comprehensive strategic enrollment and student success efforts, providing thought leadership as the University continues to develop innovative in-person and virtual programs and approaches to meet the changing needs of traditional and adult learners. The University Registrar serves as the institutional student data steward, leads the team responsible for effectively managing all aspects of academic records and student registration processes, fosters and maintains collaborative working relationships with institutional leadership, faculty, and staff, and supports University academic programs and policies. The University Registrar acts as a central communication resource for academic information and promotes operational excellence and the innovative and effective use of technology. Given the breadth and depth of responsibility, knowledge base and access to data, the University Registrar is a key player in helping the university become truly student-centric.
Essential Functions:
  • The University Registrar is responsible for managing all functions of the Office of the Registrar including the integrity of student academic records, undergraduate and graduate student registration processes, enrollment reporting, academic calendar, University Catalog, and degree completion verification.
  • The University Registrar provides leadership in the implementation of the University’s Reigniting Our Strategic Directions 2022-2027, including implementation of new curriculum and academic programs.
  • The University Registrar partners with the Office of Decision Support and Information Technology Services around data governance and data stewardship, keeps abreast of evolving software solutions and brings appropriate technology advances to the work of the office, coordinates import of records from the customer relationship management system and maintains critical systems including the student information system, enterprise content management, course and classroom scheduling, and University Catalog.
  • The University Registrar co-chairs the Academic Policy Review Committee and serves on the Data Governance Committee, Enterprise Technology Committee, and other key campuswide leadership teams as the University considers how best to manage key university resources and serve the needs of prospective students, current students, and alumni.
  • This position works collaboratively with the University’s academic leadership in developing, updating, maintaining, and effectively communicating academic policies and in addressing issues related to student academic records and student data integrity.
  • This position manages the unit’s budget, including administering, preparing, reviewing, monitoring, projecting, and allocating budget requests, and budget allocations; ensuring that the budget submissions reflect the university’s strategic directions appropriately.
  • The University Registrar works creatively and collaboratively to maximize the use of physical facilities in course scheduling and works collegially with colleges and schools in scheduling courses and assigning classroom space.
  • The role engages with peer institutions and professional organizations to partner and learn, bringing knowledge and value to the University and the profession in general.
  • Reporting to the Office of the Provost, this role leads a team of 11 staff members and is responsible for providing strong leadership and overseeing the professional operation of the office, including compliance with government regulations and institutional policies, effective budget management, enrollment reporting, accreditation reporting and audits, and outstanding customer service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree and seven years of progressive responsibility within a Registrar's Office including five years of supervisory experience as an associate or assistant registrar, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed.
  • Demonstrated record as an empowering supervisor, mentor, and team builder, developing a strong shared vision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the university’s mission, vision, and values, and record of fostering diversity and a sense of belonging.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, including the ability to review processes and utilize data to recommend and implement policy and process improvements.
  • Keen understanding of the student data steward role and knowledge of best practices in institutional data governance.
  • Prior experience with student information systems and other relevant enterprise applications.
  • Experience managing a budget including assisting in all aspects of administering, preparing, reviewing, monitoring, projecting, and allocating budget requests, and budget allocations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and professionally with peers, senior leaders, key campus partners, and Office of the Registrar staff in achieving institutional goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex organizations, including evidence of creative and innovative thinking and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence, exemplary customer service, continuous improvement, and professional comportment.
  • Effective communication, active listening, interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Professional integrity and a sense of humor.

Preferred Qualifications
:
  • Experience with the Ellucian Colleague Student Information System, as well as experience with course scheduling software and Slate.
  • Experience in other areas of enrollment management is also highly valued.

Compensation at a Glance:
Salary Range: $113,900 - $128,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.
