Position Description

Seattle University has an exciting, dynamic opportunity for an Undergraduate Academic Advisor to join our community. This position works as part of a team to successfully move students toward degree completion through a holistic approach. Major responsibilities include: providing individual and group advising for current and prospective students, acting as a liaison to other campus departments, planning and implementing student events, and contributing to the administrative functions of the academic advising office.
This position has an anticipated start date in September.

Essential Functions:

  • Advising students on academic matters, including curriculum issues, study abroad planning, University policies and procedures.
  • Facilitates students’ educational goals, selection of majors, career discernment, and professional development.
  • Providing referrals to campus resources for academic, personal and health issues.
  • Monitoring and intervening to support the academic progress of assigned students, particularly those on academic probation.
  • Develops and produces written resources as requested.
  • Provides student problem-solving support during registration, including collection and processing of closed class requests each quarter
  • Assisting with the interview, selection, and training process of Graduate Assistants and New Student Mentors.
  • Assisting with the planning and set-up of Albers events.
  • Participate in and present at Transfer and First Time in College (FTIC) student orientations throughout the year.
  • Participates in internal and external professional development and training opportunities.
  • Represent Albers Advising on University committees, such as the Academic Advising Network

Marginal Job Functions:

  • Participates in events for prospective and current students and families; creates and conducts presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years work experience in higher education student services or an
    equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Must be able to work occasional weekends and evenings as assigned.
  • Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and handle interruptions in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Skilled in presenting to large groups of students and colleagues.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Resourceful in navigating campus and communicating with various campus departments.
  • Strong customer service skills along with the ability to work with a diverse student population, faculty and staff.
  • All candidates must show a demonstrated commitment to diversity and the university’s mission, vision, and values.


Preferred Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, or other relevant field preferred. General knowledge of undergraduate business and economics curriculum and issues.

Compensation at a Glance:
Salary Range: $48,000 - $56,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.
