Overview:
The Seattle Housing Authority's (SHA) Office of Policy and Strategic Initiatives (OPSI) is hiring an intern to work on several key projects related to new programs being piloted.
 
This intern will:
  • gain a firsthand understanding of how projects, policies and programs are created, implemented and evaluated;
  • Perform collaborative work with a wide variety of stakeholders including SHA staff, community members, program staff and/or program participants; and
  • develop and support environments that foster mutual learning and informed decision-making.
 
This intern will have the opportunity to be part of a high-performing team and take advantage of both independent and guided learning opportunities in the areas of research and evaluation. Examples of focus areas in the research and evaluation team include evaluating the implementation and outcomes of SHA's investments in current resident services and serving justice-involved individuals, and co-developing recommendations to direct future investments.

Job Duties: 
Mentored by a supervisor, this intern will:
  1. Research best practices for defining, measuring and evaluating success of housing and resident services programs.
  2. Define what success looks like for a program through collaborative decision making.
  3. Support the development of a program theory of change.
  4. Work with stakeholders to understand learning objectives, create research questions and establish performance metrics that will help answer those questions.
Depending on the length of the internship, projects could also include participant outreach or data collection to support continuous learning.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:
  1. This position is open to graduate students with an interest in public policy, public administration and research and evaluation. Students in other programs with relevant interests and skills are also encouraged to apply.
  1. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  2. Ability to work independently and take initiative to complete assignments in a timely manner.
  3. Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize and manage several tasks efficiently and effectively within deadlines.
  4. Experience summarizing and consolidating complex information from a variety of sources into actionable recommendations.
  5. Knowledge and applied skills in qualitative, quantitative or mixed research methods; experience conducting program analysis and data collection is optional.
  6. A commitment to race and social justice.
