This position will primarily work with high school students and staff, and is funded by the City of Seattle's Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise Levy (FEPP) which has the goal of transforming the lives of Seattle's children, youth, and families by leading with race and social justice by providing Seattle residents access to educational opportunities from preschool through post-secondary.
As a Seattle Promise Outreach Specialist you will be a key member of the team that recruits and onboards graduating high school students to the Seattle Promise program and Seattle Colleges.

What you will be working on:
  • Lead outreach, recruitment and onboarding programming for Seattle Promise students, in collaboration with staff at all three Seattle Colleges, the Seattle Colleges district office, and high school partners.
  • Work with college and high school staff to develop and implement best practices related to high school recruitment and retention targeted at a diverse populations of students.
  • Focus recruitment efforts on underserved students including low income, first-generation, students of color, and students whose primary language is not English.
  • Partner with college and high school outreach efforts targeting potential Seattle Promise students, including working at multiple sites with multiple policies, procedures, and cultures.
  • Track students, collect, analyze, and report on data related to student outreach, enrollment, financial aid status, and retention.
  • Assess student progress toward application completion and milestone achievement and make appropriate referrals for additional student support as needed, focusing efforts on underserved students including low income, first-generation, students of color, and students whose primary language is not English.
  • Provide programming and interventions aimed at promoting student retention and completion throughout the student onboarding experience such as planning and facilitating application workshops and planning Readiness Academy and Summer Bridge events.
  • Assist students with the Seattle Promise enrollment process, including program application, college application, financial aid application and file completion, college assessment and placement, program selection, and first quarter registration.
  • Facilitate services including off-campus school visits, student interaction tracking, presentations to students and other stakeholders, and event coordination.
  • Serve as a point of contact for students, parents, high school staff and college staff for questions about the Seattle Promise program.
  • Participate in the development of program priorities as a member of the Seattle Promise team, including but not limited to developing and maintaining programming to build campus and community involvement with Seattle Promise.
  • Represent the Seattle Colleges at various meetings.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise part-time hourly staff, work/study students, interns, and/or volunteers.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent (associate degree plus 2 years' relevant work experience).
  • Demonstrated experience navigating education systems.
  • Two years' experience or equivalent in secondary or higher education, a college access organization, or related.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and supporting underserved students including low income, first-generation, students of color, and students whose primary language is not English.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines while being attentive to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience with working effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds, such as racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic, and with diverse physical and learning disabilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of college recruitment strategies for underserved students including low income, first-generation, students of color, and students whose primary language is not English.
  • Proven highly motivated, self-starter, flexible and adaptable
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity and proficiency with various technologies, including but not limited to student database systems and student success technologies.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; and traversing up and down stairs.
