Overview
Are you passionate about advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion and think about systemic change? Have you created/built/ contributed to new programs resulting in student success for BIPOC students? If these questions resonate with you, then we invite you to consider joining our team, an equity-focused open-access college dedicated to helping all students achieve their academic and professional goals. As a Navigator, you will be responsible for being a key member of the team that supports students through Guided Pathways work in order to achieve their educational goals. In this role, you will work directly with students and be involved in institutional change to support them.
The Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is seeking candidates who align with the colleges' mission, vision, and passion to serve, and who demonstrate commitment to promoting a climate of equity, diversity, and inclusion including an understanding and demonstration of cultural humility.
Under the direction of the Title III Director and the office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, this position will work both independently and collaboratively to assist students with a focus on BIPOC students throughout the intake process and first few quarters of the student experience, including helping students through the application process and collaborating with other departments. This role housed in the Equity and Welcome Center will also use their knowledge of working with students to guide and lead First Year Experience programming and other Guided Pathways projects on campus centering men of color. Leading with racial equity, our colleges maximize student potential and transform lives within a culture of belonging that advances racial, social, and economic justice in service to our diverse communities.
This position is funded on a contingent basis each year through the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges as determined by the state legislative budget to implement Guided Pathways framework across our system.

What you will be working on:
  • Advance equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), such as advocating for historically marginalized individuals, organizing EDI activities, advocating for policy changes, community engagement, and/or self-advocacy
  • Collaborate with the Title III director in working on projects and meeting outcomes related to Guided Pathways including help with Guided Pathways reporting
  • Develop and implement Guided Pathways first-year experience and intake and onboarding across the campus through efforts such as leading and participating in relevant committees at the college and district level
  • Use an equity lens and mindset to help students choose a pathway and successfully start at North Seattle College with a focus on supporting BIPOC students, particularly men of color
  • Utilize data tracking and analysis to enhance decision making around first-year experience and to create monthly reports using tools such as Excel, ctcLink and Starfish on student retention and outreach
  • Provide guidance to students one-on-one and in group sessions with the intake process, assisting students applying for admission, financial support, and other support resources, and get started on their path at North Seattle College and guide them through their first quarters at North
  • Consistently track student Starfish appointments and proactively follow up with the students to ensure their needs are met
  • Act as a referral resource for students coming to the Equity and Welcome Center who need additional services (such as Financial Aid, Advising, Housing, and Registration) or other support on campus or in the broader community
  • Support students with pathway exploration using active listening and available resources; emphasize individual exploration and self-advocacy skill development, and make referrals to Counseling for assessment and HDC 100 (Career Planning) courses

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Education or a combination of education and direct experiences.
  • Two years of experience working directly with students in an advising, coaching, or other related capacity
  • One year of experience administering and creating student programs
  • Proven track record of advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), such as organizing EDI activities, advocating for policy changes, community engagement, or self-advocacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds and communities in a multi-cultural environment
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Well organized and with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others
  • Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, Outlook, and various systems and tools (starfish, ctcLink, canvas, etc.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; and traversing up and down stairs.
