Seattle Colleges is Hiring an Associate Dean - Georgetown Near Seattle, WA

Position Summary

South Seattle College is looking to hire an Associate Dean for their Georgetown campus.

Salary Range for this position is $82,348.00 to $113,719.00 annually, depending on experience.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Executive Dean, the Associate Dean is responsible for supporting the Executive Dean in providing strategic leadership and direction in Georgetown on and off-site instructional programs as well as assisting with the overall management of the campus. With the Executive Dean, the Associate Dean provides vision, educational leadership, and management of a broad range of credit and non-credit programs, including workforce short term certificate programs, pre-apprentice and apprenticeship programs, and associate degrees. The position functions to strengthen instructional quality, increase program capacity, and maintain adequate faculty professional development and innovative instructional design and delivery. The Associate Dean also works with relevant Georgetown and South Seattle College main campus departments and staff, program coordinators and deans to expand support services for students and increase rates of retention and completion, especially for populations underrepresented in apprenticeship programs, including people of color and women. Primary responsibilities include working with instructional staff and faculty to ensure operational effectiveness, completion of instructional administrative tasks, and improving the quality, growth, and sustainability of instructional and training programs at the Georgetown campus.

This position is full-time, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, primarily 8:30am - 5:00pm. This position is an exempt, non-represented position.

What you will be working on:

  • Promote South Seattle College’s mission of transformative education with a particular focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with college business and industry partners, educational institutions, and private employers through activities ranging from needs assessment to curriculum development and program offerings.
  • In coordination with Georgetown strategic planning, review and analyze enrollment data to support college mission and core theme goals.
  • Administer systems that ensure instructional and curricular quality is maintained for all apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship instructional programs associated with the Georgetown Campus of South Seattle College
  • Supervise classified, pro-staff, and/or exempt staff members; e.g. Program Manager
  • Work with faculty to develop, update, and recommend curriculum, assessment strategies, and related services.
  • Research and recommend methods for student learning outcome assessment.
  • Support curriculum development/accreditation; participate in college accreditation process.
  • Assist in the ongoing program review process for degree programs.
  • Develop and schedule a program review process for the apprentice programs.
  • Collaborate with Executive Dean/staff to develop new degree and Apprentice programs.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Dean, faculty, and staff to develop an annual and quarterly class schedule for apprenticeship programs.
  • Support the coordination of site usage among apprenticeship programs, Labor Center, short-term training, and other instructional programs, ensuring an atmosphere conducive to education.
  • Collaborate with the SSC West Seattle campus partners to maintain successful Georgetown operations.
  • Collaborate with SSC West Seattle campus academic programs to offer general education courses at Georgetown in support of apprenticeship degrees.
  • Represent South Seattle College in various Seattle College District-wide efforts and initiatives.
  • Participate in SSC’s Instructional Council as a member of the instructional administrative team.
  • Participate in Guided Pathways work as an instructional leader.
  • Attend quarterly apprenticeship meetings, state council, and other meetings as needed.
  • Assist with part-time faculty hiring and evaluation.
  • Assist with faculty teaching observations annually.
  • Develop and facilitate instructor orientation and link with main campus strategies and resources.
  • Support Executive Dean in planning and monitoring budgets (including state operating, grant, fee budgets).
  • Participate in the development of grant proposals and oversee the implementation of programs funded through grants and contracts, monitor grant programs for accountability.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

  • Earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Experience anticipating, prioritizing, and managing tasks while respecting the diverse personalities, experiences, and competing priorities of student, staff, faculty, and partners.
  • Evidence of successful work with and a commitment to diverse ethnic and multicultural populations.
  • Three years of community college or university teaching experience or equivalent.
  • One year of coordination, supervision, or administrative experience (e.g. faculty coordinator or equivalent experience) in higher education.
  • Experience with curriculum development and/or outcomes assessment.
  • Experience working with collective bargaining agreements and/or organized labor unions.
  • Evidence of effective leadership of teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, email, and internet applications.
  • Experience managing budgets.
  • Experience with grant and contract management.
  • Evidence of success in developing effective partnerships.
  • Education/Experience in professional/technical discipline.
