Seattle Childrens Hospital is Hiring a Research Scientist II Near Kent, WA

Responsibilities

Would you like to help kids born with severe heart defects have better lives while also doing exciting science?

The Nigam Lab ( at the Center for Developmental Biology and Regenerative Medicine, Seattle Children's Research Institute and the Department of immunology, University of Washington invites applications for a Research Scientist II position. Work in the Nigam lab uses basic science and translational approaches to improve the care of children born with severe cardiac defects. The primary focus of the lab seeks to elucidate and find novel treatments for the systemic inflammation that occurs after exposure to cardiopulmonary bypass, which is required for the majority of cardiac surgeries. This project, which has been recently awarded a R01, examines how biomechanical stimuli activate inflammatory responses. Previous Research Scientists in the lab have been coauthors on a number of papers. Given the rapid progress of the project, there is a very good potential to be an author on high impact papers.

The successful candidate will perform laboratory procedures as part of ongoing research studies; assist in planning research experiments, their execution and data analysis; assist others in the laboratory with problem-solving and understanding molecular biology; and help maintain a constructive laboratory environment. The candidate will work closely with a post-doc and graduate/undergraduate students to plan and supervise several parallel lines of investigation.

The selected candidate will join the vibrant research community at CDBRM and Department of immunology, located in a newly renovated building in downtown Seattle. A modern, open lab space, a collegial atmosphere, on-site gym and rooftop garden, and top-of-the-line equipment, office space and meeting rooms make this an ideal training environment.

The University of Washington and Seattle Children's Research Institute have strong scientific interactions with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Benaroya Research Institute, Institute for Systems Biology, and Brain Research Institute. Requirements

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering or scientific discipline; may require a Master's Degree for certain lab specialties.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a related area/laboratory setting.

Required Credentials:

  • N/A.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in applicable field/research specialty highly preferred.
  • Significant experience conducting research in area of specialization.
  • Some experience with laboratory management.

Min to Max Hourly Salary

$30.37 - $45.55 /hr

Min to Max Annual Salary

$63,169.60 - $94,744.00 /yr

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.

Seattle Children's offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
