SCS Engineers is Hiring an Environmental Technician Near Miami, FL

What we are looking for

Environmental technicians are non-exempt staff who work with and support scientists and engineers on a variety of land redevelopment, electric utility, remediation, chemical/petroleum spill projects, and municipal solid waste landfill projects. Training will be provided. Expect long work days outdoors in the field with challenging conditions (e.g., heat, humidity, insects, snakes, heavy vegetation, earthmoving equipment/vehicles, developed and undeveloped sites) and travel in the tri-county area (e.g., Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties).

How you can make an impact as an Environmental Field Technician (training to be provided)

  • Conduct site reconnaissance surveying using GIS software and hand-held devices
  • Oversee monitoring well installation
  • Conduct groundwater sampling
  • Oversee advancement of soil borings
  • Collect soil samples
  • Conduct air monitoring
  • Monitor gas vapor systems
  • Maintain mechanical field equipment
  • Perform construction quality assurance
  • Prepare field notes and environmental sampling log documentation
  • Perform equipment calibrations and maintain equipment calibration logs
  • Adhere to SCS engineering, construction, and O&M policies and procedures
  • Perform all work in accordance with SCS’s Health and Safety Program

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in environmental, mechanical, or construction-related fields required
  • Associates degree in an environmental discipline preferred
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems used for environmental remediation desired
  • Experience with electrical systems, pumps, blowers, motors, air compressors desired
  • Ability to learn and follow technical protocols and procedures
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in adverse conditions including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to perform periodic site maintenance and upkeep via mowing, brush hog, and/or weed trimmer
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing
  • Ability to travel overnight for work and extended out of town fieldwork may be required
  • Strong communication skills, written documentation, attention to detail, and solid judgment are required
  • Completion of (or ability to complete) a 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training

Pay range for this position is $25 to $30/hr depending on experience. This does not include bonuses or our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
