SCS Engineers is Hiring an Environmental Technician Near Little Rock, AR

What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is looking for an Environmental Technician to assist with a variety of work including environmental assessment, monitoring, sampling, inspection, research, data management, reporting, and/or design support services for projects being conducted for a variety of municipal solid waste landfill, electric utility, brownfield redevelopment, and petroleum tank projects. Depending on the technical group the you are working with, you may be focused in specific areas of the environmental field although cross-training for multiple disciplines may be required. You will work with your supervisor, along with the Project/Task Managers for whom they are performing work, for ongoing or new assignments and manage the work being conducted in accordance with the project schedule. You may be required to conduct assignments in both field and office settings. You should have a desire to learn all aspects of environmental consulting and will be tasked with completing assigned training to advance this learning.

How you can make an impact

  • Record data during field work, which could include, but not be limited to: soil characteristics, groundwater or surface water data, meteorological conditions, compliance information, waste characterization data, and/or summaries of visual observations through photographic and written field logs in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare defined sections of environmental assessment, compliance, monitoring, or other project or task documents, including text, tabulated data, charts, graphs, sketches and/or figures.
  • Collect samples from hazardous and non-hazardous sites, including: soil, air, surface water, groundwater, waste, and landfill gas and properly ship or transport those samples to the appropriate laboratory or testing location.
  • Assist other staff in overseeing drilling activities involving probe and well installation, borehole logging, well development, well construction, monitoring, and sampling.
  • Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of pumps and other equipment.
  • Oversight of SCS and/or client subcontractors.
  • Calibrate, maintain, test, troubleshoot, order, and organize field equipment.
  • Perform repairs of field equipment and/or arrange for repair with vendor.
  • Conduct and document construction quality assurance observations and similar construction inspections for compliance with design plans, specification, and construction documents.
  • Complete quality control reviews on work products (reports, design plans, calculations, data, etc.) prior to submission to the Project or Task Manager.
  • Work with the Project or Task Manager to coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and clients as directed.
  • Compile data and assist with preparing portions of reports, progressing toward the ability to prepare complete reports, such as: environmental site assessment, emissions monitoring, groundwater/soil investigation, compliance, and other project reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of permit applications and/or regulatory agency submittals and responses with supporting documentation as requested, including research of regulatory requirements.
  • Compile data and prepare basic calculations for reports and in support of design documents or other studies as requested.
  • Prepare short form site specific health and safety plans as requested.
  • Participate in health and safety training as required.
  • Local and overnight travel. Travel can range from 50% to 90% of the time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science related field preferred.
  • No experience required but environmental fieldwork preferred.
  • Intermediate skills in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of scientific concepts including: physics, statistics, chemistry, mathematics, and geosciences.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools such as hammer, screwdriver, drill, saws-all, etc.
  • Ability to travel and be in the field during varied weather conditions as directed by supervisor or project manager.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods of time required.
  • Completion of (or willingness to complete) a 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing required.

Pay range for this position is $20 to $23/hr depending on experience. This does not include bonuses or our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
