The Computational Physics Branch (TNP) in the NASA Advanced Supercomputing Division at NASA Ames Research Center develops high-fidelity multi-disciplinary simulation tools, data-driven modeling using machine learning, advanced numerical methods for exa-scale computing, uncertainty quantification, magneto-hydrodynamics of the stars, aviation’s impact on climate change, asteroid risk assessment, Mars sample return, and first-principle based physical models that support NASA missions including advanced air mobility on Earth as well as deep space exploration of planets and moons in the solar system.
Responsibilities:
The scope of this internship task is to conduct a short-term project with the high-fidelity Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) team at TNP for the Dragonfly mission. The Dragonfly mission is NASA’s Next Frontiers mission to send a rotorcraft lander to Saturn’s moon Titan. The candidate or candidates will assist the CFD team in the following tasks:
JOB REQUIREMENTS
This is a part-time internship position during school terms. This position can be performed either onsite at NASA Ames Research Center, fully remote, or hybrid. The most successful candidates will be advanced undergraduate or graduate students in a STEM field of aerospace or mechanical engineering or computer science. Knowledge of a programming language like Python, C , Fortran, and Tcl/bash is required. Past experience of CGT and OVERFLOW is required. Computational analysis tools like Tecplot, Pointwise, OpenFOAM, and NASA’s CGT and OVERFLOW will be utilized throughout the internship to model and study rotorcraft vehicles.
