The purpose of the High School Academics Team at KIPP New Orleans is to work with School Leaders to drive student achievement and the KNOS academic vision. We achieve this purpose through developing excellent teachers, supporting great coaching, providing world-class curriculum and being relentless about progress monitoring. ResponsibilitiesACADEMIC MODEL DEVELOPMENT AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENTDevelops program standards and supporting content aligned with federal, state, and college/career requirementsAssesses student performance data to drive continuous improvement of programs, with school leader input and considering differing student population needsStrategically sources, pilots, and scales innovative models (e.g., blended learning) for specific area of focusElevates areas of potential conflict between academic model and specific programmatic restrictions to academics team to adapt the modelADVANCEMENT OF A CULTURE FOCUSED ON ACADEMICS AND EQUITYPromotes strong academic culture throughout sphere of influence, ensuring team focuses all activities on improving student outcomes in college, career, and civic readinessDesigns program offerings across schools to drive educational equitySTUDENT SUPPORTS (ACADEMIC, BEHAVIORAL, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL)Creates supports to meet the needs of students in specific area of focus and provides materials and instructional plan to serve special populations (e.g., special education, credit deficient, ELL)Incorporates practices that support students’ behavioral, social, and emotional developmentRESOURCE ALIGNMENTAllocates resources throughout program to ensure program vision can be implemented in line with academic modelPRINCIPAL MANAGEMENT AND COACHINGImplements program in area of focus across school networkCoaches principals across network to ensure consistent delivery and implementation of programCOMMUNITY ENGAGEMENTMakes program decisions, considering implications for students, teachers, administrators, parents, and broader communitySeeks input from academics team leaders, school leaders, and other key constituents in making effective decisionsEFFECTIVE TALENT ALLOCATIONPlaces elective program leaders in high-need positionsEncourages top quality leaders to seek out and rise to overcome challenging placementsMEASUREMENT AND IMPROVEMENT OF TEACHING AND LEARNINGDefines and monitors key metrics to measure program effectivenessBenchmarks program performance against peer organizationsImproves curriculum and instructional coachingPERFORMANCE EVALUATIONDetermines performance standards for program staffSupports implementation of performance evaluation system across team, ensuring key competencies for effective instructional delivery are appropriately assessed In area of focusPROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTStructures, sequences, and delivers program-specific professional development to ensure effective program implementationIdentifies trends in student performance data in program to inform continuous improvement of professional developmentDelivers feedback and hard conversations with program staffCAREER PATHING AND SUCCESSION PLANNINGInvests in developing team members to grow into future department leaders, providing stretch opportunities and chances for professional growthEncourages high performers to seek out growth opportunities within the organizationMonitors and assists with development and implementation of individual career development plansADVANCEMENT OF A TALENT-FOCUSED CULTURESeeks input from team to understand current pulse on culture, how it may vary from school to school, and on how to make improvementsSupports talent-focused culture in team managementQualificationsThe following are required of all KIPP New Orleans Achievement Managers:Bachelor’s degree3-5 years teaching experience in urban, open enrollment schools and demonstrated student results at an exemplary levelSuccessful completion of State and Federal Criminal Background CheckPersonal affinity to our mission and vision, as well as demonstrated commitment to our 5 core beliefs - Relentlessness, Equity, Achievement, Community, and HopeInstructional Leadership: Adept at data analysis; ability to extract meaningful insights across school-wide dataInstructional Leadership: Expertise in what the school-wide academic standards and state assessments require of students’ knowledge and skills to demonstrate mastery; able to translate student mastery requirements into instructional plans and strategiesInstructional Leadership: Deep understanding of appropriate application and differentiation of high-leverage instructional strategies (e.g. make kids do the heavy lifting, pacing, stretch-it, etc.) based on comprehension of child development and pedagogyInstructional Leadership: Command of instructional design and the benefits and tradeoffs of school design decisions in driving student achievementAchievement Orientation: Demonstrated resilience and focus on student outcomesStudent Focus: Belief that all students, regardless of background, have the ability to go to and through college; demonstrated commitment to the school’s unique communityTalent Development: Demonstrated success in developing leadership capacity in othersCultural Competence: Demonstrated ability to create inclusive environments that honor and support a diversity of backgrounds and perspectivesPerformance Management: Demonstrated student achievement results from teachers and leaders that he/she manages and coachesDirection Setting: Ability to set direction across an entire school and motivate others to actionProvide documentation of either 1) received a COVID-19 vaccination or 2) have requested, and been granted, reasonable accommodation from the KNOS Director of Human Resources to be exempted from the requirements of this policyThe following are strongly preferred for all KIPP New Orleans Achievement Managers:Masters in Education or aligned content3-5 years teaching experience with at least 2 years of leadership experience in urban, open enrollment schools and demonstrated student results at an exemplary level in both rolesState issued teaching credentialThe physical demands and environmental conditions described below are representative, but not exhaustive, of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the role. All of these physical requirements should be able to be performed with clarity, coherence and connectedness of the KNOS vision, and reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.Must be able to sit and work at a desk/computer for extended periods of timeMust be able to spend the majority of the day standing or mobile throughout the classroom, as well as talk, hear, grasp, reach and lift up to 30lbs with or without accommodationsAbility to concentrate in active and noisy environments such as cafeterias and playgrounds, to more moderate situations such as classrooms or large group professional settingsMust be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipmentAbility to handle potential high stress conditions Additional InformationSalary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.
