Job Description

KIPP Chicago is seeking a Achievement Director - Multilingual Learners (AD - ML) to join our regional Academic Team for SY 24-25. This position is a 12-month, in-person role that reports to our Managing Director of Achievement & Literacy. The Achievement Director - Multilingual Learning Is a region-level position and will work across all KIPP Chicago schools to ensure that all ML students within KIPP Chicago reach their full academic potential. The AD - ML must be fluent in Spanish, both written and orally, and demonstrates a high degree of cultural competence and awareness of the needs of multilingual learners. 

The Achievement Director - Multilingual Learning will provide leadership, supervision, guidance, and support for the Multilingual Learners (ML) Program by: recommending, interpreting and implementing policies to ensure compliance with ML district, state, and federal rules, regulations, and policies; providing supervision, guidance, and technical assistance to school-based staff working with ML students at all schools; and serving as a supplemental instructional leader by conducting observations to identify trends, coaching content leaders, teachers and school leaders on best practices, planning and executing professional development, and providing resources and guidance to teachers of MLs.

Key Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities of the Achievement Director - Multilingual Learning include, but are not limited to: 

Drive Achievement Through Instructional Leadership 

  • Set ambitious learning goals aligned to regional priorities and strategically plan to achieve them

  • Conduct walk-throughs and observation-feedback cycles with ML teacher and school leaders that will enhance lesson development and implementation to ensure the continued growth and development of ML students 

  • Enhance schools’ ML programs by strengthening the foundation of ML support provided to teachers, staff and students - Plan and execute professional development sessions at the school and regional levels to supplement teacher development in their work with ML students 

  • Seek and provide instructional resources for teachers, school and regional leaders 

  • Evaluate and make curriculum recommendations to enhance the ML program 

  • Analyze region wide and school specific data, identify trends and influence regional and school team responses 

Meet/Exceed ML Compliance Goals

  •  Ensure that all ML students are properly identified and served, as demonstrated by annual goals and benchmarks 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of federal, state, and district laws and guidelines 

  • Ensure that all program documents, waivers, and reports are completed and filed to meet state and federal guidelines, including, but not limited to HLS forms, testing schedules, and required parent documentation 

  • Educate teachers and staff on state-mandated requirements, trainings, certification processes and deadlines 

  • Collaborate with schools to ensure that all testing protocols are met with respect to all district and state testing, including, but not limited to, ensuring that all ML students are properly coded across all school systems, appropriate testing materials are secured for all identified ML students, and all identified ML students are administered the appropriate assessments in accordance with state testing guidelines, policies, and procedures 

  • Stay current on all state and federal required mandates associated with ML program, attending state trainings on program changes

  • Monitor all data associated with ML students 

  • Provide teacher training demonstrating the use and knowledge student needs to incorporate instructional strategies in classrooms 

Qualifications

  • Illinois Professional Educators License (PEL) with a Bilingual Education endorsement in Spanish and/or English as a Second Language endorsement (required) 

  • Fluency in Spanish, written and oral (required).

  • At least five years of experience working with ML students 

  • Demonstrated ability in raising the achievement levels of ML students 

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills 

  • -Demonstrated passion for the mission, vision and values of KIPP Chicago; comfort and willingness to actively participate in the KIPP Chicago community 

  • A cleared CPS Background Check before first day of employment
