School City of Hammond is Hiring a Coordinator of Health Services Near Hammond, IN

General Description of Position:

Reports to Assistant Superintendent of Finances and Operations is responsible for:

  • Directing and providing coordination of the Health Services department.
  • Collaborating with administrators in the coordination of the daily functions of the Health Services Department
  • Maintaining knowledge of all state requirements and reports for the administration of care to the student population.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of school nursing and how it is relevant to meeting the needs of students.
  • Managing the fiscal, physical, and human resources to effectively manage the health care of students and staff.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, parents, students, and community stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, hiring and training of the Health Services staff.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Health Services Department
  • Provide daily staffing for school coverage.
  • Provide and participate in professional development for the health services department to ensure and maintain current knowledge of health care trends and needs.
  • Provide annual evaluations for the health services staff.
  • Attends state, local, and national conferences and provide information to the health services staff and district administrators.
  • Management and reporting of state reports and audits to ensure compliance.
  • Update and compose policies and guidelines as needed and required for the health services department and the district.
  • Provide training and education of staff responsible for the coordination and training of AEDs, Stop the Bleed, Narcan administration and CPR for district employees.
  • Provide training to staff on the management of chronic diseases and allergies.
  • Coordination of district wide immunizations programs with local officials and health clinics
  • Ensure and monitor immunization compliance as required by the state.
  • Attend weekly state webinars that are provided by the IDOE and IDOH.
  • Coordination of the Mobile Dentistry Program
  • Coordination of the 1st grade state mandate MCT vision program
  • Coordination of community resources to assist with providing services to meet the need of students.
  • Attend school-based conferences for students as needed, to ensure that health care needs and concerns are completed and addressed in school.
  • Review health care plans for students to ensure all requirements and medical orders are complete.
  • Monitor communicable diseases and report as needed to the local and state health departments.
  • Coordinate meetings with parents to resolve concerns with staff as needed.
  • Provide training to staff for accurate completion of incident reports.
  • Monitor incident reports for follow up and completion. Send to insurance company as requested.
  • Monitor daily attendance for each school in the district as required by the state and report as needed.
  • Ordering, inventory, and maintenance of supplies for the health services department.
  • Coordinate proper disposal of sharps and expired medications as required by state regulations.
  • Ensure that all health services staff are current with licensure, credentials, and certification as required by the state.
  • Review monthly reports for all health office visits.
  • Compose annual report for all services provided by the health services department.
  • Assist with the coordination of SCH sponsored vaccine clinics for employees.
  • Coordinate and schedule clinical sites for Purdue and Ivy Tech nursing programs at SCH locations for each semester.
  • Perform other duties as needed or required for the school district or the health services department.
  • Promote positive school-student relationships for the district and community
  • Any additional duties assigned by supervisor or Superintendent

Other Requirements:

  • Registered nurse with a minimal of a BSN or higher.
  • Five years or more of current school nursing experience
  • Previous management experience a plus
  • National School Nurse certification a plus.
  • Proficient in Computer skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with others.
