Schneider Electric has an opportunity for a Materials, Senior Test Engineer at our Morrisville, North Carolina location.

Job Description:

The candidate for this position will be responsible for polymeric materials lab testing to support electrical power distribution equipment and components including design & troubleshooting. Performs verification, validation, and qualification tests. Prepares, analyzes, collects, interprets and reports data.

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform polymer material testing & failure analyses
• Perform composite material testing and analysis
• Perform assigned laboratory tasks efficiently
• Support design teams and Materials engineers in selection of materials based on test characteristics and material performance in the lab
• Perform with proficient use of tools and equipment to analyze polymeric material properties
• Provide accurate and concise collection, preparation, analysis, documentation of test results
• Provide interpretation of test results
• Maintain equipment for safe and efficient operation and verify calibration of laboratory equipment
• Maintain clean, safe and organized lab facilities and environment. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards
• Perform other tasks and incidental duties as may be requested to assure the effective and continuous utilization of assets

Qualifications - Requirements:

• MS in Polymer Science, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Engineering or related field
• 5 years of experience in related field
• Proficient in the use of at least the following tools used for analyzing polymers
  • Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)
  • Plasma Sputtering Carbon Evaporator System
  • Melt Flow Index/Melt Volume Index (MFI/MVI)
  • Hybrid Rheometry / Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA)
  • Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA)
  • Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
  • Impact Testing
  • Imaging Techniques: digital photography, stereomicroscopy & SEM
• Experience operating laboratory hand tools and power tools a plus
• Fluent PC skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and ability to operate in a windows environment
• Experienced using data collection software
• Job may require alternating sitting and standing & use of hand/foot controls
• May be required to reach overhead, lift, and be on feet for long hours, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing
