Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis, the Associate, Financial Planning & Analysis will be responsible for analyzing financial data, preparing financial reports, and supporting financial planning and forecasting activities. This role will collaborate cross-functionally with programs and departments to provide financial insights and recommendations. This is a unique opportunity for a finance professional to apply their technical skills in a mission-driven, philanthropic organization.

The Associate’s role will include:

  • Support multiple programs and functions within the organization, serving as a key point of contact regarding financial review, budgeting and analysis.
  • Work closely with leaders across a wide range of backgrounds (academics, consultants, technologists, etc.), and in close partnership with multiple teams on financial planning and analysis. 
  • Participate in recurring monthly, quarterly and annual processes across the organization and with affiliates.
Financial Analysis & Review
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial modeling, to support decision-making processes and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare regular financial reports, executive summaries, and presentations for senior management and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and relevance.
  • Assist in the development and management of budgets, long-term financial plans, and forecasts to support strategic initiatives and program operations.
  • Track org-wide KPIs for our financial operations (grantmaking, operational spending). 
  • Gather, organize, and maintain financial data, ensuring data integrity and accuracy. Utilize financial systems and tools effectively for reporting and analysis.
  • Partner with teams across the organization to identify solutions to improve operating and financial KPIs.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required, supporting special projects and initiatives as they arise.
System Improvements
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, optimizing data flow and streamlining financial reporting and analysis.
  • Collaborate across the organization on system and process improvement initiatives to support our growth and drive efficiencies to enable scale.
  • Partner with the broader shared service accounting and treasury teams in the family office, which serves Schmidt Futures and other philanthropic and non-philanthropic initiatives, to advance our collective financial stewardship responsibilities and to streamline financial close processes. 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience in analytical, financial roles such as investment banking and/or private equity.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data at both a consolidated and detailed level.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling techniques and tools, as well as advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel/ Google Sheets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, for both conceptual and analytical problems.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and build positive relationships.
  • Values-based, collaborative working style with a demonstrated commitment to the highest standards of ethics and confidentiality.
Requirements
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or other quantitative field (or equivalent from an accredited institution).
  • Be based at the Schmidt Futures offices in New York and be able to travel within the U.S. and internationally on a regular basis as needed following company policy and permitting circumstances.

$90,000 - $140,000 a year
At Schmidt Futures we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $90,000 to $140,000. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies and experience.
