Scenic Fruit Company is Hiring a Maintenance Technician Near Salem, OR

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Specialist

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, Non-Exempt

ABSENCE COVERAGE: Maintenance Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

October - May : Schedule is Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm. Work includes preventative maintenance and new equipment installation. Optional 10 hour x 4 day work week.

June - September: Schedule is Monday though Saturday and Sunday as needed. 10 hours days and opportunity for OT. Seasonal work includes line maintenance and emergency repairs.

The person in this position is responsible for configuration, set up, adjustment, and continued maintenance of assigned equipment. This position works with direction provided by the Maintenance Supervisor via Preventative Maintenance work orders or through other written/verbal communications.
Supervisor and/or peers are available for consultation and assistance when needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Follows all Safe Quality Food (SQF), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Safety rules and guidelines.
  • Analyzes mechanical and operational problems on assigned equipment. Plans for and takes corrective action. Makes necessary corrections and running adjustments to maintain maximum production and quality while production is performing.
  • Assists with equipment installation and disassembly.
  • Ensures processing equipment and lines are operational (i.e., troubleshoot, install, repair, inspect and dispose).
  • Maintains industrial systems: Water and Steam Systems and Refrigeration System.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of facility machinery and building via preventative maintenance work orders and inspections.
  • Maintains inventories of maintenance materials, supplies and repair parts at required levels by initiating requisitions for purchase and periodically reviews inventory for proper upkeep.
  • Recommends, plans, and implements equipment needs to improve production efficiency and/or achieve cost reduction.
  • Completes all training for OSHA compliance, Hazmat and MSDS requirements and regulations (i.e. Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection/Confined Space, Respiratory Protection, Ammonia Control, Hot Work, Emergency Response and Evacuation, etc.)
  • Performs related work and other job assignments as required and/or as assigned by Operations Superintendent.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains effective verbal, written and digital communications.
  • Operates equipment during relief periods.
  • Performs product examination and rework when line is down due to causes beyond mechanic’s control.
  • Follows attendance policy, reports to work at scheduled time prepared to work full shift.
  • Maintains a clean work area and performs housekeeping duties as required.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 years previous experience within food manufacturing facility preferred.
  • Ability to weld/fabricate preferred.
  • Computer skills preferred (excel, word, outlook, etc.).
  • Attention to detail, organization skills, and the ability to solve problems is required.
  • Ability to work all shifts as needed to cover production schedule.
  • Ability to work independently greater than 70% of the workday.
  • Be able to work in a team environment and produce results in conjunction with fellow team members.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations relative to plant operation and maintenance. Particular emphasis on safety for yourself and others.
  • Ability to use hand tools and trades type tools.
  • High mental and visual effort required.
  • Previous experience operating Forklifts, ability to pass RainSweet forklift certification required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, twist, reach above shoulders and use hands to finger, handle, feel, and see objects in a production environment. This position requires good manual dexterity. The employee performing this job must be able to frequently lift up to 50 lbs or more. Employee must be able to use arms repeatedly for pushing, pulling, grasping, lifting, and carrying.

Employee must be able to work 8-12 hours per day, 5-7 days a week.
The employee will often perform under somewhat disagreeable working conditions. Exposure to dust, dirt, heat, cold, fumes, noise, vibration and water is likely, typical work will include at least one of these presents to the extent of creating a disagreeable working environment.
