Purpose of the Role

A Project Engineer for Saunders Heath is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating activities of designated project to ensure that goals or objectives of project are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally or through project supervisors.

Functions / Duties

Field Engineer Duties and Responsibilities – Reports to Superintendent

  • Actively participate in daily Pre Task Meetings
  • Regularly walk jobsite to review quality/safety/cleanliness/conditions/progress of project/jobsite. Recommend solution to Project Manager, Superintendent and/or Safety Manager.
  • Coordinate 3rd party inspections and track deficiencies through QA/QC software.
  • Assist in managing QA/QC program with particular emphasis on field inspections.
  • Verification of layout.
  • Assist with managing final inspection process with the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
  • Assist with managing the punchlist process.
  • Generate RFIs applicable to duties. Ensures proper logging of RFls.
  • Verify validity of Superintendent/Subcontractor RFIs prior to issuing to architect.
  • Administer weekly schedule, direct subcontractors to meet schedules.
  • May be responsible to supervise portions of the work as determined by the Superintendent.
  • Create supplemental schedules for material deliveries, subcontractors, etc. and directs subcontractors to meet delivery dates, task schedules.
  • Weekly production tracking.
  • Assist superintendent with development of Daily Logs.
  • Take weekly jobsite photographs to document activities and conditions of jobsite.
  • Verbal agreements/conversations with subcontractors, owners, architects, etc.
  • Correspond with subcontractors relative to administrative duties.
  • Generally be the Go To person for Foreman and Superintendent questions regarding the Work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Office Engineer Duties and Responsibilities – Reports to PM/PM-Estimator

  • Attend daily Pre Task meetings.
  • Regularly walk jobsite to review quality/safety/cleanliness/conditions/progress of project/jobsite. Recommend solution to Project Manager, Superintendent or Safety Manager.
  • Assist with developing the Project Specific QA/QC plan.
  • Develop agenda for and document Preconstruction Meetings for defined scopes of work.
  • Maintain project documentation and files.
  • Develops submittal requirement log/listing. Solicits, logs and reviews submittals for accuracy and compliance with Architect specifications. Directs subcontractors to make revisions/corrections to submittals.
  • Manage project procurement to ensure materials are delivered within the timeframe required by the overall project schedule.
  • Upon delivery of materials, verify the proper materials and quantities have been delivered.
  • Generate RFIs applicable to duties. Ensures proper logging of RFls.
  • Verify validity of Superintendent/Subcontractor RFIs prior to issuing to architect.
  • Administer weekly schedule, direct subcontractors to meet schedules.
  • Create supplemental schedules for material deliveries, subcontractors, etc. and directs subcontractors to meet delivery dates, task schedules.
  • Take weekly jobsite photographs to document activities and conditions of jobsite.
  • Review and verify job cost status reports.
  • Gather, review and approve information for pricing of Subcontractor Change Orders.
  • Verbal agreements/conversations with subcontractors, owners, architects, etc.
  • Assist in developing meeting minutes.
  • Correspond with subcontractors relative to administrative duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Qualifications / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from four-year college or university or relevant field experience.
  • Ability to read and understand all project documents (plans, specifications, contracts, etc.)
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position:

  • Spends approximately 70% of the time sitting, and 30% of the time either standing or walking while on the job.
  • Occasionally* lifts up to 15 lbs, when moving project binders, office supplies or files, and may stoop, kneel, crouch, and balance while performing these same functions.
  • Occasionally required to climb, crawl, stoop and negotiate ladders, stairs or other routes at and within project sites in order to fulfill duties.
  • Constantly uses verbal and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as E-Mail, telephone and radio.
  • Constantly employs eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery such as computer keyboard.
  • Constantly utilizes full scope of visual capacity to travel to project sites and observe/verify project progress in addition to operating automated office equipment.

Frequently - Activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time

Occasionally - Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
