Sattler College is Hiring an Executive Vice President Near BOSTON, MA

Job Description

As the inaugural Executive Vice President (EVP) at Sattler College, you will partner with the President by managing the college's internal operations, while the President focuses on cultivating external partnerships, expanding support networks, and enhancing recruitment channels. In your role as EVP, you will support the President closely, assist with various presidential responsibilities as needed, and execute tasks delegated to you by the President. For the 2024/2025 academic year, the duties assigned to the EVP will include:

  • Cabinet Organization: Lead the structuring of Sattler College’s cabinet-level positions.
  • Regulatory Oversight: In coordination with Sattler’s Chief Academic Officer, oversee the college’s relationships with accrediting and regulatory bodies such as TRACS, ABHE, and MA DHE.
  • Leadership Supervision: Manage oversight of the college’s existing cabinet-level positions, deans, and their direct reports, including the Chief Academic Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Information/Operations Officer, and Chief Enrollment Officer.
  • Title IX and In-Service Activities: Manage or delegate duties related to Title IX compliance and the execution of in-service activities.
  • Discipling Initiatives and Pastoral Care: Collaborate closely with the President and the Dean of Students to oversee the college’s discipling efforts and pastoral care needs.
  • Church Relations: Provide recommendations to enhance relationships with constituent churches.
  • Chapel Development: Work in conjunction with the Chapel Coordinator to enhance the Sattler Chapel experience; the EVP may choose to take a direct role in student chapel activities and oversee the Chapel Coordinator.
  • Academic Support: Reduce the Academic Dean’s burden in faculty evaluations and record-keeping to free up time for more strategic tasks.
  • Academic Efficiency: Aid in structuring the office of the Chief Academic Officer to effectively collaborate with the Academic Dean and Director of Student Services. Aim to eliminate non-essential tasks from the Academic Dean's workload, enabling a focus on broader strategic objectives.

Operational Responsibilities

In order to free up time for the President to devote the necessary time and effort to his duties, the President formally delegates to EVP duties related to internal management of the college. The EVP takes on the administrative responsibilities of the President as follows:

  • Executive Leadership: Act as the President’s primary delegate for internal management of the college, assuming major administrative responsibilities and providing executive direction alongside the President.
  • Management of Internal Affairs: Serve as the leading senior executive for day-to-day internal college affairs, managing the daily operations and providing administrative leadership, direction, and evaluation for all academic and operational activities.
  • Areas of Oversight Include:
    • Academic Success
    • Enrollment Management and Services
    • Financial Aid and Entrustment Management
    • Institutional Research and Effectiveness
    • Information Technology (IT)
    • Hiring and Retention: The EVP will assume the majority of hiring decisions. The EVP will coordinate with the President on hiring positions that have implications for the college’s fidelity to the founding precepts (in particular full time faculty in BRS; Dean of Students role; Directors of Student Life; and Chapel coordination). For such roles, the President should join in interviewing for new faculty and staff.
    • Student Life and Discipleship: Assist in improving discipling efforts in collaboration with the Dean of Students and Chapel Coordinator
  • Acting President: Conduct the duties of the President when the President is unable or unavailable.
  • Board relations: Help the president prepare for and attend quarterly board meetings. The EVP becomes the main point of contact for various board subcommittee meetings which meet once per quarter (in particular the institutional and operations subcommittees)
  • Budget and Facilities Oversight: Oversee the budgets and facilities of all academic and non-academic units of the College.
  • Strategic Implementation: Implement the strategic vision of the Board and President by collaborating with college leaders to execute and evaluate major academic and student support initiatives, including recruitment, retention, and enrollment management.
  • Strategic Planning: Work with the President and Board to develop the College’s Strategic Plan.
  • Teaching: Continue to build rapport with students through teaching, provided there is a desire to do so.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. and performance record sufficient for consideration of appointment to the rank of professor
  • Record of administrative leadership within a college
  • Equivalent experience will be considered

About Sattler

Why Staff and Faculty Choose Sattler

Recognition and Certification: Sattler College has been certified as a Best Christian Workplace for the period April 2024 - March 2025. This certification is a testament to our commitment to creating a engaged and flourishing workplace.

Why Students Choose Sattler College

Sattler College’s mission is to provide an education that instructs the mind, discipleship that shapes the soul, and inspiration that inflames the heart. The modern higher education system rarely tends to the yearnings of the soul, nor inspires the passions of the heart. It fails to educate young people holistically for a life well lived. It is often hostile to faith, too expensive and academically weak. We need nothing short of a revolution. Sattler College was founded upon the biblical vision of Christian discipleship that addresses the mind, soul and heart. Our goal is to enable graduates to heartily say, “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power, love and a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).

Sattler College started offerings in Fall 2018 and was accredited Fall 2021. Sattler is a four-year Christian college granting bachelor's degrees in the following majors: biblical studies, business, computer science, history, and human biology. Students choose Sattler because they want to build their faith, while also taking the next steps toward fulfilling God’s plan for their careers. Sattler students are exceptional. Many arrive at the college with significant cross-cultural experiences. Many have been leaders in their home communities and are eager to participate in thoughtful service in an urban environment.
