About the job

Do you have a passion for helping customers leverage their software and infrastructure to achieve maximum business value? Ifyouareeager and passionate to learn, grow your skills, and immediately contribute to the technology experience of SAS customers, this role might be for you! This role reports directly to the Vice President of Applied Architecture and Technology in SAS Research & Development.

As a member of the Applied Architecture and Technology team you will have a direct impact on both the current and future success of assigned customers on their SAS software journey, many of which are SAS largest and most strategic customers. You will do this by "rolling up your sleeves" to resolve current issues, map a course for additional and future software adoption and remove any roadblocks that hinder that adoption.
As a Principal Systems Architect, you will:

    Build an ongoing and trusted relationship with the assigned customers by being "the expert" on how the current SAS technology is being used and enabling efficient new SAS software adoption.
  • Be a "technology expert" that supports other members of the team in supporting their customers
  • Partner with other SAS groups, ex. Engineering, Publications, Technical Support, Consulting, etc., to deliver the best customer experience possible as it relates to implementing, using and operating SAS software.
  • Work directly with Engineering and Product Management, provide customer-based feedback to enhance the software.
  • Resolve escalated customer issues, either through direct resolution or streamlining the process of resolution with the appropriate subject matter expert.
  • Propose, update and review customer architectures and designs. Provide feedback and mapping to Engineering architecture efforts.
  • Define and execute proof points based on direct customer scenarios around performance, scalability, functional and operations goals.
  • Work directly with the customer (ranging from admin to sr architect to director to executive) and/or SAS Professional Services during customer implementation.
  • Creation of tools and papers to simplify and enhance the customer experience and to enable future self-service.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related field or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in programming.
  • Ability to work constructively and collaboratively across independent SAS teams and divisions.
  • Significant experience with implementing and operationalizing SAS 9 and SAS Viya.
  • Significant experience with cloud native infrastructure technologies across multiple cloud providers.
  • Advanced experience and competency in optimizing applications within Kubernetes environments.
  • Advanced ability to "go deep", ex. write code, log diving, etc. while also being able to "take it up a level" based on audience.
  • Ability to thrive within an independent and collaborative working environment.

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a customer facing, technical role.
  • Previous experience working in an engineering role.
  • Previous experience with project management techniques.
