About the job

The IaaS Observability and Monitoring (O&M) Engineering team is looking for an Architect to design and build enterprise-wide solutions to meet the current and future needs for all of SAS Institute, Inc.

As a Principal O&M Architect, you will:

    Gather requirements from various SAS business units and determine gaps in existing O&M solutions.
  • Identify new solutions or process to meet business objectives by working across all members of the O&M team, service management, hosting, and enterprise support teams.
  • Architect end-to-end monitoring and event management solutions with Zabbix and DataDog in conjunction with ServiceNow
  • Document new and existing O&M solutions for the team and our internal customers.
  • Determine how new solutions will have implications on operational support and provide processes for mitigation.
  • Develop automation scripts and configurations to deploy and manage monitoring solutions efficiently.
  • Define and promote monitoring best practices across the organization.

Required qualifications:

  • 12 years of experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.
  • Strong knowledge of DataDog and Zabbix
  • Working knowledge of ServiceNow ITOM Event Management and ITIL concepts
  • Proven track record of designing end-to-end enterprise O&M solutions.
  • Experience with container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes) and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Familiarity with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and modern application development practices.
  • Willingness to be a member of an on call rotation.
  • You're curious, passionate, authentic, and accountable. These are our values and influence everything we do.

Preferred qualifications

  • Certification in relevant monitoring technologies
  • Knowledge of AIOps (Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations) concepts.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Knowledge of other monitoring tools such as Grafana, ELK stack, New Relic, etc.
  • General knowledge of networking and firewalls
