The Medical 1 unit:

Located on 10 Waldemere Tower is a 32 bed inpatient/observation unit, serving the adult patients that are acutely ill or injured. The unit cares for patients who primarily require general medical care and treatments. The continuum of care extends from the time of admission to preparing the patient for discharge to home, extended care facility, to home with home health care, to post discharge follow-up and, in-house hospice with care directed toward comfort measures and end of life. Low volume procedures performed by staff include PCA pain control management, tracheostomy care, tracheal suctioning, set-up and maintenance of chest tubes, and oxygen administration including high flow and Opti-flow oxygen delivery.

The Patient Care Technician performs tasks supportive to delivery of patient care in assigned departments under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.

- Require one of the following: 1.) Florida licensure as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); Paramedic, or a military corpsman; or National licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); which must be maintained active during employment; or 2.) Nursing students who are eligible for CNA exam are required to: a.) currently be enrolled in an accredited school of Nursing (RN/LPN); b.) have completed the first semester of clinical for ASN/BSN degree or completion of first trimester for LPN; and c.) cannot be currently licensed in the U.S. as a RN or LPN; or 3.) Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification: Provide certification of successful completion of a Florida State Board approved program and successfully obtain a Florida CNA license within 120 days of graduation.
