PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES 

SAP is looking for a Head of Design to join the SAP.iO Venture Studio - a group charged with building the new growth engines for SAP. We provide these employee-led businesses with the creative structure, patient capital, and mandate to enter the market. The Venture Studio is part of the New Ventures and Technologies group, an innovation unit tasked with future-proofing SAP.

You’ll champion the role of design within the Venture Studio, and help to coach the founders as they build user-centric products. We are looking for a strong leader who will advance design and user experience In SAP’s upcoming products, and We have a growing, globally distributed team of product designers, brand and communications designers, researchers, and copywriters.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Develop a “north star” for design among the individual venture teams
• Foster and nurture a community of practice among the designers in the SAP.iO Venture Studio and in the larger SAP New Ventures & Technologies group
• Surface risks and challenges in the design process, help resolve blockers
• Provide direction and vision for evolving the role of research in the product development process
• Socialize and evangelize design to the larger organization
• Define and track KPIs to monitor the success of the design
• Ensure the teams are optimally staffed, recruiting the best design talent
• Keep up to date with the latest design trends and tools and make proposals about why SAP should invest in new tools and how we make them work for our teams’ ways of working

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

• 10 years of experience leading design within an organization; 5 years in management
• A proven track record of building great teams, providing vision, dealing with organizational challenges, and shipping great product
• Experience with developing and driving long-term vision and strategy across product lines, brand, and marketing campaigns
• Startup experience is preferred, as the environment is fast-paced and focused on releasing a product
• A ‘big picture approach to helping establish, support, and engage teams, while still managing the details
• Experience integrating user research with product design using both quantitative and qualitative data
• Working with and optimizing the process for remote and global teams
