POSITION PURPOSE:
The Cowell Center provides medical and psychological services and is committed to the values of multiculturalism and social justice. This position serves the uniquely diverse environment of Santa Clara University and directly contributes to student success. The Outreach, Marketing, and Communications Coordinator is responsible for delivering an integrated outreach, promoting student well-being, destigmatizing students' need for mental health services, normalizing seeking help for mental health support, and improving students' access to Student Health Services (SHS) and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). This position will provide consistent and regular marketing and communication to ensure students, faculty and staff are aware of services. The position is also responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating marketing strategies and activities through print, digital and social media. Collaboration with Cowell Center staff and the Wellness Center is essential to ensure accurate, timely and consistent messaging.
A successful candidate will be able to showcase a history of working across diverse identities (including but not limited to race, gender, sexuality, and ability status) and demonstrate their commitment to inclusivity. A successful candidate will lead by modeling a deep commitment to cultural humility and equity; and will demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and application of the concept.
Position may require occasional evenings and weekends.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administration
Create and engage in an array of health promotion programs that promote awareness of core mental health concerns to all members of the SCU community.
Coordinate with Cowell Center staff and university partners to develop and implement an outreach calendar, meeting agendas, program materials and program activities.
Design, coordinate, implement and evaluate a comprehensive array of health promotion programs that address critical health issues affecting university students including but not limited to: mental health, suicide prevention, healthy relationships and self care and the development of self-advocacy skills in accessing and utilizing the services offered by the Cowell Center.
Collaborate with the Wellness Center and peer leaders.
Engage in special programming during Winter of Wellness, Mental Health Awareness month, and other university events related to mental health and student well-being.
Engage in special programming to honor national observances (e.g. Black History Month, Eating Disorder Awareness Month, Suicide Awareness Week).
Provide programming and communications to the SCU community that reflect SHS/CAPS values and mission in the aftermath of national and international tragedies and local community's critical incidents.
Coordinate CAPS staff's participation in and provide clear guidelines for staff outreach involvement.
Manage, monitor, and update CAPS social media messaging and consumer engagement with CAPS via social media platforms.
Develop, implement and evaluate impact of health promotions. Efforts should include brochures, newsletters, bulletin boards, digital screens, websites and social media outlets.
Create and coordinate crisis messaging and protocols regarding outreach and meeting campus needs.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of all outreach programs and services.
Ensure that the Cowell Center is being sensitive to issues of diversity and inclusion in creating and delivering messages of care to students.
Ensure student leaders' and student organizations' awareness of SHS and CAPS services and promptly respond and integrate feedback from students.
Demonstrate commitment to issues of social justice and continue to develop professionally in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Practice and model cultural humility, and inclusiveness in fulfilling this position's duties and responsibilities.
Promote a strengths-based, mental health positive framework to decrease stigma of mental health challenges and normalize seeking help and support.
Assure that psychoeducation materials are grounded within updated, evidence-based strategies.
Coordinate Kognito mental health trainings and other suicide prevention and psychoeducation for faculty, staff and students.
Serve on university and departmental committees as appropriate.
Departmental Development
Actively and collaboratively support the mission, goals, and initiatives of the Cowell Center.
Observe all Cowell Center policies and procedures.
Keep abreast of changes in psychological care that affect CAPS and the campus community.
Attend scheduled staff meetings.
Serve on departmental committees as appropriate.
Display a positive attitude within the Cowell Center and across departmental lines to contribute to staff morale and overall customer satisfaction.
Participate in departmental performance improvement activities.
Develop and foster relationships and trust with employees and the SCU community.
Work individually and as a team in a collegial, respectful, and professional manner.
Demonstrate collaborative practice with team members utilizing conflict resolution and chain of command as necessary.
Maintain membership in Professional Organizations as deemed appropriate. Perform other work-related assignments as assigned and/or required.
Position may require occasional evenings and weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, or related field, or equivalent experience required
Three to five years of work experience in marketing and/or in public health or mental health-related position required
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate multidisciplinary and culturally diverse administrators, faculty, staff and students
Ability to work independently
Advanced verbal and written communication skills
Professional and customer service orientation
Knowledge and experience implementing a marketing strategy to support the brand
Strong project management skills: organizing, prioritizing, time and resources management
Experience with higher education or social enterprise marketing is desirable but not required
Experience in marketing, communications and social media preferred.
Two or more years of full-time professional experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating culturally diverse community health education programs, preferred. Experience in higher education setting, preferred.
KNOWLEDGE:
Demonstrated ability to use technology in improving the delivery and evaluation of programs and services.
Demonstrated knowledge in the application of student development theories.
Demonstrated knowledge in addressing the needs of a diverse student population.
SKILLS:
Demonstrated presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with a variety of people including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents.

ABILITIES:
Ability to establish professional relationships; interact effectively with diverse constituencies; and maintain confidentiality when required.
Ability to work well both individually and as a part of a team in a collegial, respectful, and professional manner.
