Purpose:
The Department of Education at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit Catholic institution, seeks to hire an Academic Year Adjunct Lecturer/Associate Director in its Catholic Teacher Education program. The responsibilities of the Annual Yearly Adjunct Lecturer (AYAL) position will be equal to a teaching load of up to nine courses over four academic quarters.
Four commitments ground the mission of the Department of Education: Cura personalis, or the care for and growth of the whole person, which informs not just how we teach our teachers, but also how we expect our teachers to engage their own K-12 students; social justice, or the pursuit of educational equity through the preparation of teachers who deliver culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogy that helps all students learn; transformation through the development of our students into equity-oriented teachers and agents of change; and diversity of faculty and students, who enrich K-12 schools, our teacher preparation program and scholarly research through their critical voices and perspectives. Our teacher preparation program Master of Arts in Teaching and Teaching Credential (MATTC) faculty have developed our teacher preparation program to embrace a more critical model of education, including programs specialized for Catholic Education, Catholic MATTC and ExCEL (Excellence in Catholic Education and Leadership). Our Department of Education endeavors to live out these commitments not only in its academic and scholarly pursuits, but especially in its K-12 school partnerships. Faculty teach courses at Santa Clara University's main campus and our East San Jos campus, which hosts several K-12 schools serving students from an underserved and culturally rich Latinx neighborhood.
Required Qualifications

• Earned a Master's degree in teaching, education, or related field from an accredited university
• Multiple years of experience as a K-12 Catholic school teacher
• Multiple years of experience as a K-12 leader in a Catholic school setting and/or experience as a leader of Catholic school teachers in a higher education setting, such as a program in the University Consortium for Catholic Education
• Strong commitment to Catholic education and its mission in the Catholic Church
• Experience leading adults in spiritual development (e.g., through retreats, shared Masses, prayer services, faith-shares, Bible studies, etc.)
• Commitment to social justice and equity in education

Preferred Qualifications

• Earned a doctorate of education or a doctorate of philosophy from an accredited university OR evidence of plans to enroll in a doctoral program in education or related field by time of employment, if a doctorate has not yet been earned (e.g., application submitted to ECP's EdD program)
• Experience as an instructional coach and/or field supervisor for early-career teachers
• Experience recruiting, supporting, and leading new teachers at a school site and/or in a teacher education program
• Experience as a participant in a postgraduate Catholic service-through-teaching program, or other experience living in intentional, faith-based community
• Experience providing community support to members of a postgraduate service program living in intentional community

Responsibilities:
In this 10-month Annual Year Adjunct Lecturer position, the individual will serve as Assistant Director for Catholic Education programs as well as teaching in the program. As such, approximately 75% of their time will be devoted to teaching, including both classroom teaching and field supervision related to the formation and ongoing support of Catholic educators, and 25% of their time will be released for leadership and administrative support of the program.
Teaching: Teaching will include both classroom teaching and field supervision of candidates.

• Classroom teaching will include multiple courses in the Catholic Education program that are specifically tailored to Catholic education teachers. Specific teaching assignments may vary slightly from year to year and can be tailored somewhat to the experience and interests of the candidate, but will include the Catholic Educator Practicum over multiple quarters.
• Instructional Coaching will include a range of activities related to the field support of Catholic educators in the Catholic teaching programs, including regular observations of students in their classroom and holding post-observation meetings to review performance, questions, and guide teacher formation.
• Regularly communicate with site-based mentors for each first-year in residence teacher to assess progress and identify areas for growth and areas of strength.
• Hold regular remote (zoom) office hours for students seeking pedagogical consultation.
• Advise Catholic education students

Administrative Responsibilities:
Recruitment:

• Assist the admissions team in the recruitment of in-person and online Catholic School teachers and co-coordinate the admissions process
• Arrange and conduct interviews with teacher candidates
• Arrange interviews between admitted Catholic School teachers and local principals
• Collaborate and co-execute with the admissions team orientation for new Catholic school teachers

Programmatic Service

• Plan Baccalaureate Mass and dinner
• Arrange and plan monthly support seminars for Catholic education teachers
• Collaborate with staff and Director of Catholic Education programs to engage alumni in community events and support and mentoring of Catholic educators
• Collaborate with Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications to maintain Catholic school social media.
• Assist in the planning of and attendance at the semi-annual UCCE conferences
• Coordinate UCCE partnerships with Cristo Rey National Organization
• Network with members of the National Catholic Education Association
• Other responsibilities as assigned.
