Sanova Dermatology is Hiring a Medical Assistant / Surgical Tech Near Baton Rouge, LA
Mohs Surgery Team
We are searching for an experienced Medical Assistant or Surgical Tech to support our Mohs clinical team at our Baton Rouge office. A successful candidate will be able to work successfully in a fast-paced environment and have experience working within a dermatology practice setting. We offer a positive, dynamic environment where all medical personnel work together for the success of the patient, and we hope you'll want to join our team. This position works Monday - Thursday from 6:30am to 4:30pm.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a patient advocate during patient exam, surgery and treatment.
- Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, allergies, and medication list.
- Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician.
- Assures appropriate consent has been obtained prior to treatment or procedures.
- Conducts patient assessments and obtains pertinent medical information for referral to the physician and/or nurse.
- Directs patients from the exam room to the next appropriate station, i.e., treatment room or appointment desk.
- Prepares and stocks exam rooms, orders such supplies as needed and maintains/controls drug samples.
- Assists physician during surgery while maintaining a sterile field.
- Performs wound cares/bandages patients following their procedures.
- Acts as a scribe during both office visits and surgical procedures.
- Executes lab procedures and processing of lab specimens as needed. Files all labs and outside reports accurately and as needed.
- Explain wound care instructions and physician’s instructions to patients.
- Maintains all exam room disinfection protocols.
- Assists physician with common dermatology procedures.
- Practice Standard Precautions, including hand washing and disposal of bio hazardous materials.
- Maintains a clean work environment and restocks the supply area as needed.
- Assist with any other staff/team member as requested or needed by the physicians, nurses, and managers.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Two (2) year’s experience in a dermatology practice setting, strongly preferred.
- High school degree or GED
- Transportation to travel to Lafayette clinic weekly
- Certified as a Medical Assistant or surgical tech experience preferred.
- Basis knowledge of medical and surgical dermatology, specifically, Mohs surgery.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of ModMed/EMA EMR a plus.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Displays excellent customer service skills.
