Sr. Director of Engineering

Job Purpose:

In this key leadership role, the Director of Engineering will head the activities for the Viking Enterprise Solutions group in support of a cutting edge data storage product and server product design in Colorado Springs. The Director of Engineering will lead a team of engineers in the development and enhancement of products. He/She will establish the technology development and engineering support objectives. Besides managing the activities of the engineering staff and providing hands-on technical support on process issues, the incumbent will also analyze problems and implement solutions with regard to production requirements, financial impact, employee safety and environmental concerns. This person will also identify project priorities and allocating resources accordingly are also part of the job scope. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of building and leading product development teams, and a sustained track record of delivering high-quality solutions on time and on-budget. The Director of Engineering will also be responsible for the following:

• Create and maintain detailed critical project schedules for internal as well as customer review/input for high profile engagements. Input comes from multiple sources and has varying degrees of competition.
• Work closely with product development to ensure that appropriate test fixturing is available, including ICT and PCT. This is a worldwide, multiple site responsibility.
• Perform throughput analysis to determine appropriate fixturing quantities.
• Manage customer asks and requirements across the entire development cycle for multiple projects.
• Understand and create finance capitalization requirements and requests.
• Determine desired outcome, shortcomings and pitfalls for all product development steps.
• Document desired processes (either new process or changing existing).
• Manage meetings, deliverables and schedule as needed to implement the desired goal.
• Request resources as needed.

  • System Level Test
  • Product Delivery Schedules

  • Test material quantities

Education and Experience:

• Product or hardware engineering background
• 15 years experience in electronic product design and development
• Good understanding of successful manufacturing flows and product development flows
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience with hardware
• Able to work effectively in a fast paced, active environment as a team player
• Travel as necessary

Range: $160000-$190000
