Position Title: Purchasing Manager

Job Purpose: Plans and implements activities related to the procurement of materials, parts, components, and equipment. Manages the activities of the team and is responsible for staffing decisions, training and development, and performance management of the staff. Directs the activities of buyers and expediters to accomplish company objectives. Reviews and approves purchases up to a specified dollar amount. May negotiate major contracts involving large dollar amounts. Develops policies and procedures for the operation of procurement activities. Monitors the cost, schedule and performance aspects of major subcontracts. Coordinates purchasing activities with engineering and manufacturing departments to maintain inventories at planned levels. May assist with the establishment and maintenance of the production control system. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Nature of Duties/ Responsibilities:

• Oversees multiyear contract purchases to ensure supplier agreements are in place to ensure swift execution and best pricing is obtained.
• Schedules visits with key distributors and suppliers, reviewing past delivery performance and future business strategies.
• Negotiates contracts with small business suppliers to ensure our plant maintains the proper spend with small business on DOD contracts that have small business flow downs.
• Eliminates the need for outside processing by establishing contracts with suppliers to have ready to use parts delivered to us.
• Manages commodity buyers and daily purchasing activities
• Negotiates supplier terms, prices, and deliveries
• Performs strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend, search for better deals and find more profitable suppliers.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors degree in related field
• Minimum 5 years experience managing staff buyers and all related purchasing functions and responsibilities
• Experience with US Government purchasing relative to FAR and DFARS requirements.
• CPSR experience is preferred.
