Job Description/Scop of Work: Sanford Federal, Inc. is seeking a Journeyman Painter to provide painting services at the Brooklyn VA Medical Center. Duties include surface preparation, application of various coatings and decorative finishes to structures, fixtures and other surfaces.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare various interior/exterior surfaces such as drywall, concrete, wood, metal and other approved materials for painting by cleaning, patching voids/cracks, and applying primers or sealers as needed.
• Mix and apply brush, roller and spray-applied paints, varnishes, stains and other coatings to specified sheen levels and in strict accordance with manufacturer instructions.
• Match or replicate existing or specified paint colors using supplied color charts and samples.
• Inspect painted surfaces to ensure coverage is even and complete with no visible lap marks, brush marks, runs, sags or other defects.
• Operate airless spray equipment to paint large areas quickly and minimize overspray/waste.
• Stage work areas, organize materials and supplies properly, and properly dispose of all paint-related waste.
• Interpret job specifications and effectively coordinate activities with other tradespeople onsite.
• Use personal protective equipment required for painting and solvent exposure such as respirators, gloves, eye protection, etc.
• Document material and color codes used on all projects along with related QA/QC test results electronically for recordkeeping.
• Recommend surface preparation and coating system options to upgrade dated methods or address unusual conditions.
• Maintain tools, equipment and power washing units in clean, compliant working condition at all times.

Qualifications:

• Journeyman Painter license in good standing.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience performing commercial and industrial painting projects.
• Associate degree in Painting and Decorating, Construction Technology or related field (preferred)
• Thorough knowledge of various paints, stains, varnishes and surface coatings.
• Proficient in surface preparation including drywall repair, cleaning, patching and priming.
• Experience spraying architectural coatings using airless spray equipment in strict compliance with environmental and safety standards.
• Ability to properly mix and match a variety of paint colors to customer specifications.
• Knowledge of applicable safety standards such as OSHA, EPA, manufacturer SDS requirements etc.
• Effective written and verbal communication, planning, project management and documentation skills.
• Computer literacy required to electronically record colors used, material quantities and work activities / inspection results as needed.
• Must have demonstrated commitment to compliance with industry best practices and ongoing training/education.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs without assistance and ability to perform work safely from ladders, scaffolds or manlifts as needed.
