Description
Position Summary:
Responsible for assisting physicians and carrying out written and/or verbal orders from the physician, directing professional and non-professional personnel in the delivery of patient care and other assigned duties, and assessing and educating patients and personnel.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Uses the nursing process in the delivery of patient care to ensure dignified and efficient patient care
2. Assists physicians and/or professional nursing staff including translation for patients for examinations and procedures
3. Triages patient concerns on-site, via telephone or electronic messaging
4. Maintains proper records; notifies physician of abnormal lab or x-ray results
5. Collaborates with supervisor, medical assistants, and physician to promote education based on individual need
6. Assumes responsibility for personal nursing practice
7. Prepares the clinic area for scheduled activities
8. Maintains a clean clinic area and sanitizes equipment
9. Performs lab procedures and follow-up care when needed
10. Responsible for knowing rationale for and effects of medications and/ or treatments prescribed by a licensed physician
11. Trains new staff, volunteers, and students.
12. Delivery of medical care in accordance with the Catholic Moral and Ethical Directives
13. Follows all HIPAA and OSHA guidelines and regulations, including assisting HIPAA and OSHA Officers in ensuring compliance
14. Maintains confidentiality of patient information/records at all times
15. Maintains established San José Clinic policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control
16. Implements job responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the San José Clinic Mission and Code of Conduct and is supportive of San José Clinic cultural diversity objectives
17. Performs other related work as required
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Must be a graduate of a State Board accredited school of Nursing for Licensed Vocational Nurses; must have current licensure by the State of Texas
2. Must have at least one year experience in a clinical setting or hospital outpatient facility
3. Demonstrates excellent organizational skills, multi-tasking and effective use of time
4. Able to handle and complete multiple tasks or projects with multiple deadlines
5. Able to deal professionally, courteously and efficiently with public and all levels of the organization
6. Able to operate computer, scanner, and copiers
7. Proficient in Microsoft Office and practice management system software applications
8. Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
9. Demonstrates effective customer relation skills, working with diverse populations, often in stressful fast paced environments
10. Able to communicate with medical terminology in both English and Spanish required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to sit, stand, bend and stoop for (long) periods of time
2. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally/ frequently
3. Ability to respond to emergency/crisis situations
4. Exposure to noise
5. Exposure to blood and/or fluids
