San Joaquin Delta College is Hiring a Maintenance Worker II Near Stockton, CA

Description

To perform a variety of maintenance and repair functions in support of District buildings and facilities including, but not limited to, routine plumbing repair, pool maintenance, HVAC, carpentry, painting, locksmith, and electrical; to operate a variety of hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner; and to provide assistance in a variety of other maintenance functions throughout the District.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the skilled class in the Maintenance series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. This class is distinguished from the semi-skilled classification, Maintenance Worker I, and journeyman level classifications, Electrician, Plumber, HVAC Technician, Carpenter and Locksmith/Carpenter by providing skilled maintenance functions. Employees at this level are required to have a broad range knowledge regarding a variety of maintenance functions, methods, and procedures.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from an assigned supervisor.

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. May assist or perform routine and skilled functions in the maintenance ,repair, and alteration of District buildings and facilities
  2. May assist or perform preventive maintenance on pumps, air compressors, storm drains and roof drains; install, maintain and make repairs to motors, bells, clocks, electrical control equipment, conduit and duct systems.
  3. May assist or perform remodeling and alterations of District facilities including removing furniture, cabinets, walls; installing countertops, build and repair furniture, cabinets and wood fixtures;
  4. Repair damaged walls; repair and paint stucco; tape and texture new drywall;
  5. Assist to paint District facilities, benches, handrails, gutters, doors, curbs, signs, and light poles; refinish furniture. Match paint to existing color.
  6. Set and repair ceramic tile on floors and walls;
  7. Repair, weld, modify and install parts and equipment as needed.
  8. Repair gas valves, faucets, drinking fountains; respond to issues, as requested.
  9. Assist to or perform routine plumbing repairs; replace and unclog water lines, drains, garbage disposals, drinking fountains and gutters; maintain toilets, sinks and urinals; replace washers, p-traps and valves. Patch roofs and water leaks.
  10. Assist with installation of water piping, tap water and sewer mains, and laterals; repair and replace pipes, valves, fittings, ballcocks and other fixtures; patch roofs and water leaks, as requested
  11. Maintain swimming pool in proper condition; ensure appropriate water temperature, acid/base balance and cleanliness of pool and surrounding areas; vacuum pool bottom as needed.
  12. Start and stop circulating pumps; ensure proper functioning of filters, lights and other pool equipment; repair and maintain pumps, compressors, filters and other mechanical apparatus and equipment.
  13. Maintain and repair diving board, guard rails, bleachers, lifeguard stand and sports equipment; prepare pool for special events.
  14. Safely and effectively operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools and equipment; oil, repair and adjust mechanical equipment as needed.
  15. Order and pick up supplies from local vendors.
  16. Provide assistance in various other maintenance areas or departments, as required.
  17. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:
  • Basic methods, techniques and applications of plumbing.
  • Materials, equipment and methods used in pool maintenance.
  • Blueprint reading and drafting skills.
  • Appropriate chemical levels and standards of pool operation.
  • Operational characteristics of various hand and power tools.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.
Ability to :
  • Perform a variety of maintenance and repair work within the area of assignment.
  • Perform routine plumbing repairs including replacing and unclogging water lines, drains and gutters.
  • Maintain a large swimming pool in a sanitary and safe condition.
  • Repair and maintain pumps, motors and related mechanical equipment.
  • Weld
  • Apply appropriate pool chemicals according to established safety standards and procedures.
  • Safely and effectively operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds and disabilities of community college students and staff.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting and carrying requirements; frequent walking, standing; frequent simple and power grasping, occasional twisting and bending at the waist and neck; occasional kneeling and crawling.
  • Work in a variety of environments and weather conditions.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Education :
Completion of the twelfth grade or the equivalent supplemented by specialized training in building, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, or a related area.
Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible, maintenance experience.
Licenses/Special Requirements:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
Forklift certification
