Through our Vision 2030, the SF SPCA pledges to improve the quality of life for all companion animals, not just those in shelters.

Executing a huge part of the SF SPCA’s vision is the Source to Home (STH) Team, responsible for everything from transitioning animals from San Francisco Animal Care and Control and Central Valley shelters to our campus, caring for their daily needs, treating them medically, working with them behaviorally and, finally, adopting them out into their new, forever homes. The SF SPCA seeks a seasoned and inspirational Senior Director of Shelter Operations to help guide and oversee this team and its relevant functions.

The Senior Director of Shelter Operations will:

  • Develop strategy and goals for the Source-To-Home Team.
  • Direct the execution of the team’s plans in accordance with goals and budget.
  • Provide forecasting and plans for meeting capacity to care and adoption goals.
  • Facilitate and improve the processes necessary to move animals from intake to outcome.
  • Implement a best-practice-based cleaning and feeding program for animals.
  • Monitor aspects of the physical shelter and equipment; supervise routine maintenance and repairs as required.
  • Support the development of SOPs.
  • Provide statistical analysis, report creation, and presentation.

What will help your candidacy stand out:

  • Experienced animal welfare leader with a track record of innovative and inclusive leadership.
  • Demonstrated accomplishments in shelter ops, shelter veterinary services, personnel management, and financial oversight.
  • Evidence of a passionate commitment to the proper care of animals and a safety conscious demeanor.
  • Reputable record of success as a Senior Director or Director of a humane society/animal control agency.
  • Strong project and personnel management skills.

Requirements:

  • B.A. degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent year of experience is required.
  •  Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in animal sheltering or closely related field.
  • Software proficiency, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint is essential. PetPoint is a bonus.

Compensation Benefits:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $170k - $190k/year and depends on the length and breadth of experience.

Our location is easy access from the freeway, a 10-minute walk from the 16th street BART station, and there is an on-site free, employee parking lot. Our exceptional benefits include medical, dental, vision insurance, a tax-deferred retirement plan matching funds, PTO, holiday pay, student debt benefit program, non-profit student loan forgiveness, and employee discounts.

About San Francisco SPCA

As the fourth oldest humane society in the U.S. and the founders of the No-Kill movement, the SF SPCA has been at the forefront of animal welfare for 150+ years. We are always looking for passionate, animal-loving professionals to join our family. We are a true collaborative community of top-ranked experts, supporting staff and volunteers who come together in our world-class facilities to save lives. We're passionate about making sure homeless animals find loving homes and all animals get the care they deserve. If these animals are injured, sick, or behaviorally challenged, we will do everythi...ng we can to help them. OUR HISTORY IS SAVING ANIMALS In 1868, Banker James Sloan Hutchinson caught sight of two men dragging a terrified hog along the rough cobblestone street in San Francisco. Appalled, Hutchinson stepped in to stop the cruelty and rescue the hog. The incident crystallized Hutchinsons concern over widespread animal abuse, and he soon rallied 15 like-minded citizens to found the San Francisco SPCA. Today we are a mighty presence in the animal welfare community. Our vision is about creating a community where pets can live their best lives. Where animals not only have loving homes, but also access to medical care and the best welfare. We ask ourselves: How can we improve the quality of life for cats and dogsand the people who love them?
