Title: Community Intern 

Reports to: Associate Director, Community

Status: Temporary, Part-time

Location: Hybrid. Official work address is 1074 Folsom St.. San Francisco, CA 94103

Salary: $21/hr 

ABOUT THE POSITION

The internship program at San Francisco Parks Alliance is intended to provide a well-rounded learning experience for its participants, who will gain experience in a varied and supportive non-profit environment. The Community Department partners with community groups and local leaders to support the success of community-led projects through the Community Partner Network program. By providing fiscal sponsorship, as well as administrative support and technical assistance, the Community Team empowers communities to improve and activate public space throughout San Francisco.

Alongside cohort-wide responsibilities, the Community Intern will support the department through a range of research based projects and by working closely with the Community Managers. The Community Intern will learn about how community-led public space projects are developed and implemented in San Francisco.

This position reports to the Associate Director of Community. The position requires a combination of in office and remote work, 28 hours a week (7 hours a day) Mo-Th, flexible within 7am-6pm.

Interviews for this position will start in April. 

Requirements

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Research and present a Core Project of your choosing, relating to a relevant theme and project as discussed with your manager.
  • Attend partner events such as clean-up and planting workdays
  • Undertake grant research / identify funding opportunities for partners 
  • Review and provide feedback on partner grant applications
  • Produce a written piece for our Park Talk blog
  • Review/refresh of Public Space Toolkit and other partner resources 
  • Contribute to Community Engagement “best practices” guide 
  • Work with the Community Managers to support community-led projects
  • Produce a short presentation to staff on a relevant topic 
  • Attend relevant training sessions
  • Attend all directed staff meetings 
  • Support SFPA Activation events 

QUALIFICATIONS

Length of experience:

  • Non-profit work or volunteer experience 

Education Experience:

  • High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) preferred

Hybrid Approved: SFPA allows employees on occasion to work from an appropriate home work space. While working from an appropriate work space SFPA requires employees to work and be available during their regular hours excluding breaks. SFPA will determine the equipment to be provided and expects the employee will take responsibility for maintaining an effective and healthy workspace to perform their job.

4 Day Work Week: Eligible for 4 day work week, Monday -Thursday, 8 hrs per day ranging between 7:00am to 6:00pm. Your work schedule may need to be adjusted occasionally to accommodate temporary heavy workloads or events, which could include Fridays, weekends, and evenings. Salary employees are still required to complete their assigned work, even in instances of schedule modifications.

Work Environment: The position requires the physical ability to regularly sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb a flight of stairs and lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Office (Co-Lab): There are steps into the office entrance and a flight of stairs to reach the second floor. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions.
