San Francisco Conservatory of Music is Hiring a Director of Institutional Research and Educational Effectiveness Near San Francisco, CA

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music welcomes applications for our next Director of Institutional Research . This Director of Institutional Research and Educational Effectiveness position is without direct reports or managerial responsibilities but will provide leadership in the collection, analysis, interpretation, and use of all institutional data to support SFCM's planning, policy formulation, and decision-making at all levels, as well as support for the Offices of Academic Affairs and Registrar. The position is responsible for monitoring institutional effectiveness, including accreditation, program review, learning outcomes assessment, and surveys. The Director maintains a calendar of regular data reports, responds to requests for data, and creates reports, dashboards, and other visualizations for conservatory leadership, staff departments, state and federal agencies, and other stakeholders.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepares required internal, local, state, and federal reports in a timely, accurate manner using the college administrative software-Ellucian PowerCampus-and other resources while communicating with other SFCM personnel to ensure uniformity of required system reports
  • Meets with senior leadership and committees to understand and assess the reporting needs of the Conservatory
  • Develops, maintains, and updates queries and reports to fulfill recurring data needs for internal and external reporting requirements
  • Designs and maintains web survey instruments and performs online reporting
  • Creates, administers, and analyzes course evaluations and surveys
  • Provides training and support to others regarding the planning, analyzing, and reporting processes to be used in their work
  • Prepares and presents oral and written presentations of data findings, producing tables, graphs, dashboards, and narrative analysis of data to easily display and summarize college data such as student cohort tracking, enrollments, full-time student equivalency (FTE), progress, and success measures, post-college employment, etc.
  • Lead program review and assessment efforts, WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), and other internal and external programmatic efforts
  • Performs periodic review of written procedures and updates as necessary to maintain a current, complete reference manual, including the maintenance of an institutional research calendar to ensure that cyclical project timelines are met
  • Assists the Office of Financial Aid and Registrar with annual federal audits as needed
  • Participates in professional development activities, in campus meetings, and serves on committees as required
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area of study from an accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education
  • At least five years related experience, preferably in a higher education setting
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn, follow, and enforce college policies and procedures
  • Working knowledge of data management and student information systems
  • Thorough knowledge of higher education institutional research reporting practices
  • Abilities in relational database development/administration, data warehousing, data analysis, and database design
  • Working knowledge of presentation and Office applications, preferably Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficiency in SQL
  • Preference knowledge of Power BI and Power Query
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals, departments and diverse groups
  • Ability to conduct research and analysis of project requirements
  • Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions and to effectively deal with ambiguity and changing project requirements
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion, with close attention to detail while contributing to team environment
  • Ability to work accurately, efficiently, and effectively with all types of data
  • Ability to give clear and effective public presentations
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information, in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Ability to proactively analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve issues using independent judgment and decision-making processes
  • A strong attention to detail is crucial.
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills for archiving, validating and categorizing datasets for annual and long-term reports.
This position will require a regular presence on campus. Although flexibility work schedules may be arranged, this position is not compatible with a remote work arrangement.
