The Job

San Bernardino County Museum is recruiting for a Museum Curator of Art & Exhibits*, who will develop, manage, and maintain the art collection and various exhibits. The Museum Curator of Art & Exhibits will lead and project manage the planning and designing of new temporary and semi-permanent exhibits across all museum disciplines, assist in creating educational material, and oversee and develop the Museum art collection including acquisitions and deaccessions as well as a collecting plan.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The San Bernardino County Museum is located in Redlands and contains exhibits and collections in cultural history and natural history. As part of the museum experience, there are public programs available for adults, families, students, and children. The San Bernardino County Museum strives to develop visitors’ appreciation of the diverse regional identity to spark curiosity, stimulate inquiry, challenge assumptions, and invite their contributions to the County of San Bernardino future. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must undergo a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting and a medical exam.
Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment and must be maintained along with proof of liability insurance.
Availability: Incumbents will be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

San Bernardino County is unable to consider to candidates who require Visa Sponsorship at this time or in the future. Candidates must be able to present their legal right to work in the United States at the time of employment.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet the Education AND Experience requirements.


EDUCATION:
A completed Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Fine Art, Art History, Museum Studies, or closely related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years full-time equivalent experience developing exhibits and overseeing collections in an art center or museum. Experience must include the design and development of informal learning experiences for children and/or adults. Experience must be clearly described in your work history.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in Fine Art or Art History and experience developing exhibits in a museum setting.
