POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Personnel Technician performs a wide variety of responsible technical duties relating to all aspects of certificated and classified personnel. This position may monitor and coordinate the daily operations of support staff. The Personnel Technician also performs research, develops and maintains statistics, interprets policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreements, coordinates recruitment and selection efforts, and monitors personnel transactions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintains position control and authorization records;
Maintains automated personnel system;
Responds to inquiries regarding personnel practices and procedures;
Reviews employment application materials to determine candidate qualifications;
Conducts research (salary surveys, employee history, policies and procedures);
Prepares routine and non-routine manual and automated reports;
Coordinates employment selection processes;
Maintains employment and applicant records and statistics as required;
Maintains accurate records;
Receives and composes correspondence;
Directs, coordinates, oversees, and reviews work of support staff;
Assists other personnel services staff as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience working in a personnel office using an automated personnel system;
Skill in developing reports, maintaining statistical records, assessment of employment applications, performing mathematical calculations, use of computers;
Knowledge of employment laws, automated personnel systems, Education Code;
Ability to independently perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain accurate records, establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships, meet scheduling deadlines and type at a net corrected speed of 45 WPM;
Physical Abilities include sitting for extended periods, reaching, fine manual dexterity, pulling, talking/hearing, and near and far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two (2) years full-time experience performing clerical/technical duties;
Two (2) years experience coordinating employment selection process – OR – two (2) years experience working in a personnel office;
Possession of a high school diploma (or its equivalency) or higher or possession of a GED.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year experience in a personnel office in a California school district or County Office of Education;
Experience conducting research (surveys, policies and procedures).
