Job Description
This posting is to establish a pool of qualified applicants for the 2022-2023 academic year for positions at San Bernardino Valley College and Crafton Hills College.

Part-time, Counselor position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the scope of work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this classification.
  • Implement and revise strategies, consistent with Title 5 regulations, Section 504 mandates, the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA), and other State and Federal laws and regulations
  • Review disability verification documentation received from agencies/high schools/private practitioners to ensure a student's eligibility for community college disability accommodations and services
  • Maintain accurate records for students receiving services and maintain proper documentation and confidentiality of student files
  • Advocate with faculty and administration on behalf of students with disabilities
  • Participate in outreach activities both on and off-campus
  • Provide comprehensive academic, career, and personal counseling for students with disabilities
  • Assist students in clarifying their educational goals and determining appropriate accommodations
  • Assist students with access to relevant campus and community resources
  • Provide follow-up services to students on probation and dismissal status
  • Participate in professional development to stay current in the field of disability and education
  • Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs in a timely manner
Qualifications
Education:
Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling
OR
Master's degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling,
OR
a Bachelor's degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT);
AND
either 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, or two years of fulltime experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following: (A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or (B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.

Experience:
Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.
Desired Qualifications:
Previous experience working as a Community College Counselor of Students with Disabilities.

5. Unofficial transcripts that show you meet the minimum educational requirement(s) for the position. Only transcripts showing the awarded minimum required degree or higher degree will be accepted. Transcripts must be legible. Transcripts must be from a US accredited institution. Transcripts from outside the US must include an official evaluation for equivalency. Copies of diplomas will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts if the position requires a degree. Official Transcripts will be required upon hire. If possible, please highlight the area indicating the degree name/major and date the degree was awarded or conferred.
