Roles and Responsibilities:
Job Summary/Overview:
The Gas and Chemical Systems (GCS) Controls Technician role is focused on comprehensively owning, maintaining, supporting, and improving specialty and bulk gas and chemical Industrial Control Systems at Samsung's Austin location. This role is also responsible for coordinating and performing the startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting of newly installed gas & chemical equipment. As a part of the GCS team, you will interact with the on-site Equipment Engineering teams and Operations & Maintenance Technician teams to support Control Systems for Chemical, Gas, and Slurry operations.
Specific Job Duties:
•Control Systems Technicians will provide expertise and ownership for GCS Control Systems, safety and quality standards, and improvements for those systems. Technician will interact with operations team, construction teams, and equipment vendors
•Effective communication and coordination with Engineers and Technicians to provide technical support, electrical issue resolution, and collaboration for improved safety, quality, and system reliability.
•Controls equipment monitoring and management, including sustaining operations, maintenance, and process & equipment improvements
•Perform Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing, as needed, to support the installation and commissioning process for automated equipment
•Coordinate with International vendors and Korean HQ to ensure Controls installation & commissioning meet GCS requirements for quality, reliability, safety and production
•Work with Controls Engineers to implement projects focused on improving the reliability and operation of GCS Control Systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA, Instrumentation)
•Follow and enforce site standards to ensure GCS PLC/SCADA systems meet requirements.
•Monitor PLC/SCADA systems, software releases & responds to alerts.
•Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and Instrumentation issues, traces problems & provides solutions.
•Provide effective change control management of GCS PLC/SCADA systems.
•Writes & modifies program code; creates program code in a logical manner that is easily understood by others.
•Support and implement capital improvement projects as per site specifications.
•Consults with customers to understand requests & needs; communicates with customers about feasibility of requests & timelines.
•Provide direction and oversight of large, embedded contractor technical staff.
•Communicates technical information to others within the department.
•The candidate will need to be able to work effectively with multiple teams - both internal and external - to meet the requirements of GCS and SAS: Safety 1st, and then constant, reliable, high-quality supply to production tools from GCS systems.
Shift: 1st Shift - M-F 8AM-5PM
Skills and Qualifications:
Education, Training, Certification(s) and Minimum years of experience required
•Technical schooling or on-the-job training/experience in Instrumentation and/or Industrial Automation & Controls.
•Associates degree in a technical field is preferred.
•Minimum of 5 years PLC, Instrumentation or Control Technician experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Software, and Tools
•Knowledge of industrial process controls and field instrumentation
•Experience programming and maintaining Control Systems for 24/7 industrial manufacturing.
•At least 2 years' experience in PLC programming - Omron, Siemens, Allen Bradley, GE Fanuc and Automation Direct preferred.
•At least 3 years' experience in HMI/SCADA: Experience with some of the following: Proface GP-Pro EX , Omron Designer, Wonderware Intouch and ArchestrA System Platform, Siemens WinCC, GE Quickpanel, FactoryTalk View, Inductive Ignition and Indusoft
•Experience in control panel and instrumentation wiring.
•Familiar with electrical troubleshooting methods and tools.
•Experience with communication networks - EthernetIP, Profibus/Net, Modbus, RS-232 and RS-485
•Trained in Electrical Safety and Electrical Hazard Identification. Familiar with Electrical PPE.
•Familiarity with design and installation of gas and chemical equipment including piping systems and facility support equipment
•Capability to work with Microsoft Office tools (excel, PowerPoint, word, etc.)
•Ability to thrive in a multi-culture environment
•Experience in semiconductor engineering is a plus
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Ability to work overtime / on non-scheduled days as required
