Sampson Regional Medical Center is hiring a Coder to join the join the HIM team!

Description:

his is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts. The selected candidate will review, analyze, and assign ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnoses and procedure codes as outlined by coding guidelines; maintain quality and ethical coding standards; perform DRG validation before billing and review an DRG that is different than CDI assigned DRG; work with physicians when needed to verify that the appropriate principal diagnosis, secondary diagnoses, and any applicable procedures are coded to the highest level of specificity and accurately depict the clinical picture.

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree or a minimum of two (2) years college education in Health Information Management/Technology or related field preferred.
  • Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
  • Considerable knowledge of coding (ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS) guidelines.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend medical dictation and other medical documentation found in the body of the medical record.
  • Knowledgeable in reimbursement systems such as APC's, DRG's and payers such as Medicare Medicaid.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships and communication with medical staff, other members of the health care team as well as customers.
  • Strong computer skills, including: Word, Excel/Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal skills essential.
  • Ability to multi-task and well organized.
