POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Head of Cellular Services, this position is responsible for all operations and development of the Sampled Cell Processing Lab, including managing staff, providing high-level technical/scientific support and ensuring the growth of the business.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure that the Cell Processing Lab continues to provide the highest quality biomaterials and processes for all clients.
• Incorporate the latest scientific advances as appropriate to maintain quality and efficiency.
• In collaboration with Commercial and Project Management Teams, establish relationships with potential and new clients and continue to provide scientific and technical support to existing clients.
• Interact with other Sampled Departments, for example Quality, Facilities, Project Management, Human Resources, Legal Counsel etc, to grow Cell Processing Lab services.
• Ensure quality, training and competency documentation is followed and maintained
• Working with Cell Lab Manager / Supervisors, organize and oversee lab operations, ensuring all activities are carried out safely and effectively, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Control Standards.
• Ensure lab staff are trained and competent in all laboratory services and able to gather, report and archive data required for ensuring the quality of biomaterials produced. Mentor staff and provide scientific guidance as required.
• Ensure the Cell Processing lab is properly integrated into the LIMS system for relevant reporting and tracking
• Actively encourage a health and safety culture. Perform regular housekeeping and health and safety audits. Carry out appropriate risk assessments for laboratory procedures.
• Demonstrate a commitment to Quality, GLP, GDP and GMP protocols.

• Perform related responsibilities as needed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum of a Masters Degree in a Life Sciences field, and ideally a PhD.
• 5 or more years of experience supervising and managing a high-volume complex laboratory of 10 or more individuals that coordinates activities with multiple other divisions and external laboratories.
• Extensive experience of blood processing and cell culture development and managing advanced laboratory operations.
• Ability to conduct and organize laboratory-based business enterprise efficiently and expeditiously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong organizational skills including ability to plan and organize workload of self and the team to ensure all deadlines are met or exceeded in a fast-paced client-driven environment, which will involve multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Experienced with relevant quality control procedures and GLP and GDP practices.
• Able to write and review regulatory documents, Standard Operating Procedures, and Safety Risk Assessments.
• Experienced in the development of new services / products with good project management skills.
• Proven success in hiring and developing staff.
• Demonstrates consistently good communication and interpersonal skills with employees and management.
• Engages and empowers the team, able to navigate through change. Able to effectively manage conflict and sensitive situations.
• Confident networker, quickly builds positive relationships internally and with clients.
• Willing and able to learn new techniques, with an interest in continued professional development.
