The role & who you are

We are looking for someone to manage our People Operations function. We are growing fast and need to continue building an environment which is rewarding, safe and challenging for our team members (samsters!). While you won’t be starting from scratch, we will rely on the People Operations Lead to continue to develop and manage our people operations function - from hiring and recruitment to performance and compensation. This is an in person role, with a requirement to be based out of our Edmonton Headquarters (we are moving this summer!). There will also be a component of this role related to office management and administration. 

Ideal candidates will have experience working with small (~50-100) but growing teams, working with international employees, and recruitment across a variety of fields. You’ll have support from finance administration, but will be expected to work independently and manage all aspects of People Operations. 

What you’ll do

  • Manage People Operations policies, processes, and systems and continue to explore opportunities to improve and iterate
  • Maintain people ops and hiring platforms (we use BambooHR, LinkedIn Recruiter, Indeed)
  • Work closely with our managers on hiring and onboarding, including targeted recruitment campaigns. This will include conducting screening interviews, participating in and managing the interview process. 
  • Conduct all employee onboarding and offboarding
  • Manage our performance review system and compensation review system, including compensation research 
  • Work with our technical team to ensure our HR practices are compliant with SOC2/ISO27001 practices, and continue to develop policies and systems to ensure our continued compliance
  • Ensure we are compliant with international employment laws and regulations
  • Assist with salary grant applications and reporting, and rebate programs such as SR&ED
  • Work with finance team to process payroll
  • Facilitate professional development opportunities and programs, such as Management training and DEI training
  • Manage our inventory of computer equipment and ensure all team members have the equipment and supplies they require
  • Develop, plan and facilitate team events
  • General office management (make the office a good place to be!)

We're looking for someone with:

  • 5-7 years progressive experience in a HR, People Operations, or recruitment role
  • Post-secondary training in HR, Business, or related field, and demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and development
  • Experience working with small and growing teams 
  • Experience with integration of privacy and security best practices into HR systems and processes (ie. platforms such as Vanta, Tugboat, OneTrust)
  • Experience working with teams who are geographically dispersed and with international employees and contractors (bonus points if you’ve utilized Employers of Record)
  • Demonstrated success in active recruiting for a variety of roles, including leadership positions
  • Experience both developing and implementing onboarding and offboarding programs
  • A love for organizing, creating process, and meeting new people
