Shift: PRN - FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE

Salt Lake Behavioral Health is a private 118 bed freestanding psychiatric hospital, located in Salt Lake City, specializing in mental health and substance abuse treatment for adults.

The Dietician approves menus including modified diets from SLBH, provides nutritional assessments for patients as needed, and counsels patients and their families on dietary plans, food selections, preparation and nutritional principles. Monitors the performance improvement plans of the Dietary Services department and provides input in the development and implementation of patient care plans in relation to nutritional needs. Additional responsibilities:
  • Consult with patients and family members concerning dietary needs and goals
  • Coordinate Dietary Services Department within Joint Commission standards for food service and assist Dietary Manager as needed
  • Provides nutritional assessments and dietary planning specific to the Standards of Care of Adult Patient ages 18 through 64
  • Provides nutritional assessments and dietary planning specific to the Standards of Care of Adolescent Patient ages 12 to 17
  • Contribute to overall departmental planning of dietary services
  • Provides nutritional assessments and dietary planning specific to the Standards of Care of Geriatric Patient ages 65 and older.
  • Plan modified diets for patients as requested by attending physician/licensed practitioner.
  • Monitor and document patients care in regard to therapeutic diets.
  • May instruct patients and/or families regarding diet therapy programs.
  • Review patients' charts to determine need for nutritional assessments.
  • Perform nutritional assessments in a timely manner.
  • Plan and execute monthly in-services for dietary and food service employees as requested.
  • Conduct monthly inspections of the Dietary Services Department as requested.
  • Provide guidance to food service staff as needed.
  • Consider the implications of the aging process in the provision of nutrition.
  • Document patient charts with nutritional planning, and update as changes in nutritional needs occur.
  • Communicate patient special nutritional needs to the Food Service Supervisor in a timely fashion.
  • May inspect meal assembly to ensure trays conform to prescribed diet and meet standards.
  • Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
  • Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
  • Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years dietary experience in a health care facility, with concentration in nutritional assessment and planning preferred.
  • Licensure: Registration with the American Dietetic Association and state licensure required.
  • Additional Requirements: CPR certification is required. You will need to successfully complete our current training for restraints and seclusions. This training will need to be done prior to assisting in any patient restraints or seclusions and within 90 days of employment.
