Reports To: Education & Special Services Manager
Schedule: Full-Time
Hourly Rate: $17.20
Position Statement
Assists in the planning, implementation and coordination of the education and child development component for HS/EHS; to assist in monitoring, supporting and evaluating education and child development; to assist in developing and implementing a training plan that provides on-going child development and early childhood coaching for staff and training for parents; to assist in the compliance with all performance standards and local, state and federal regulations related to the Education and Child Development Focus Area.
The Education Coach is also responsible for ensuring centers display a culture of safety and positive reinforcement with continuity of care to include active supervision strategies.
Duties & Responsibilities
Education Services
  • Provide support to ensure high quality services are being provided in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Responsible for providing training and technical assistance, to teaching staff, as it relates to early childhood education.
  • Responsible for providing intensive coaching and mentoring to teaching staff based on observations conducted by Center Managers.
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with ACF/US Department of Health and Human Services and NC Division Day Care Rules and Regulations.
  • Assist in the implementation of orientation for education staff on a center level.
  • Responsible for ensuring the fidelity implementation of curriculum, lesson plans, individual plans, screening and assessments of all children.
  • Responsible for coordinating Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment training and monitoring to ensure that procedures are followed.
  • Responsible for attending regular scheduled focus area meetings regarding Head Start/Early Head Start program operations.
  • Responsible for serving as an advocate for children, families, and communities.
  • Responsible for assisting with planning and organizing Education Advisory Committee meeting on a quarterly basis to review and make recommendations for Head Start/Early Head Start curriculum.
  • Responsible for the monthly compilation of child outcome reports for Head Start/Early Head Start Education & Special Services Manager.
  • Responsible for reviewing Child Plus reports monthly and reporting results to Head Start Program Director.
  • Responsible for reviewing Home Visits and Parent/Teacher Conferences biannually in Child Plus.
  • Responsible for collaborating with Center Managers to maintain compliance within learning environments.
  • Ensure that School readiness goals are integrated in all aspect of the program.
  • Analyze data related to school readiness, determine program strengths and areas for improvement, and create an action plan.
  • Observe classrooms using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and maintain yearly reliability certification.
  • Implement CLASS monitoring plan and conduct observations in the learning environments; provide a feedback/debriefing session and recommendations with teacher and center manager; provide follow-up.
  • Assist with updating and/or developing policies and procedures based on Head Start Performance Standards, state licensing, best practices, and the most recent mandates and resources related to Education.
  • Responsible for submitting monthly reports and weekly objectives to Education & Special Services Manager.
  • Responsible for acquiring additional knowledge related to Federal, State and county requirements.
  • Take the initiative to utilize resources and training to increase knowledge, enhance skills and strategies to be more effective and efficient.
  • Utilize technology to increase productivity.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Education & Special Services Manager.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Responsible for reporting potential abuse and neglect according to the Head Start/Early Start Policies and Procedures.
  • Responsible for adhering to professional development plan including renewal of annual credentials (*which are required for continued employment in this position).
  • Must be able to periodically attend out of town conferences and training sessions as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum: Baccalaureate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Education-birth to 5 years (or related field) and at least 5 years experience in preschool setting, 2 years supervisory experience, valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, excellent written, oral and organization skills.
